formation of black holes, which
are stars that have collapsed in on
themselves. He explained the life
cycles of stars and dispelled some
popular myths about black holes.
Depending on a star's density,
when it dies it will eventually
become either a white dwarf, a
neutron star or for the highest
density stars - a black hole.
Contrary to popular belief,
black holes do not "suck up
everything in their path" said
Percy. They can be detected by
the x-rays they emit and, if they
are rotating around a companion
star, the distortion they cause the
companion star.
