Behrend briefs
An Egg hunt is being sponsored by ZBT, Vet's
and Management Club on Saturday, April 14 in the
Tumbull-Farmhouse area from 10 am to noon for
kids under 12 years of age. The Easter Bunny will be
there.
Work Study Positions are available for the
Summer 1990 session for any Vet enrolled for 5
credits or more. Applications are in the Veteran
affairs office and are due by April 16.
Two lifeguarding positions are available in
the summer months for students eligible for work
study. For more information call Marcia Jensen in
the athletic office at 6163.
Faculty Appreciation Day will be held
April 18, by the Lion Ambassadors. There will be a
Jeopardy-style game show at 6 pm in Reed 117
along with the announcement of the survey winners.
TKE and Delta Chi fraternities are sponsoring
an organ donor drive outside Reed 117 on
Wednesday, April 11.
A clothes drive for the Seventh Day Adventis
Church is being sponsored by Sigma Theta Chi in
the Winter Garden of the Reed Union Building from
April 16-18 from 10 am to 4 pm.
The Effects of Drugs will be presented in the
Niagara Lobby at 7pm on Wednesday, April 11 by
Residence Life, Sigma Tau Gamma and Police and
Safety.
A Cultural Fiesta, a celebration of cultures
with dance, food and customs, will be held in the
Winter Garden at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 11.
The Top of the Hill is sponsoring a food
drive to benefit Emmaus Soup Kitchen. Please place
non-perishable food items in the donation box in the
Winter Garden.
A Fashion Show is being sponsoring by ABC
on April 21 in Reed 117 from 7pmtolo pm with a
party immediately following the event
Good Friday service will be sponsored by
Campus Ministry on April 13 in Reed Lecture Hall at
noon.
Operation Rice Bowl is being sponsored by
the Newman Association. Savings from meals or
snacks of members and friends will be collected on
Good Friday and sent to local programs to alleviate
hunger. For more information or to take part call

A Journey to Easter is a Lenten scripture
study on Wednesdays at 4 pm. If interested in a
continuing scripture study after Easter call Sr. Anna
Mae at 6245.
Dr. Raymond Hutchings, editor of
"Abstracts Soviet and East European Series", will
discuss Glasnost, Perestroika, and Gorbachev on
Thursday, April 19 in Nick 113 at 11 am.
A pie throw outside the Gorge will be
sponsored by APO on Thursday, April 12 from 11 am
- 3 pm. Rob Prindle, aka Love Rob, and Christine
Spanos will participate in this event.

Police Report;
Damages to
investigated

Campus police are
investigating two criminal
mischief cases involving damage
to students' vehicles parked on
campus.
According to a report issued
by Randy Hoffman, Manager of
Police and Safety, the first
incident occurred in the Erie Hall
Commuter Lot on Friday
afternoon. An unknown
substance was dumped on a
vehicle owned by a female
commuter student, dissolving a
large section of paint from the
right, rear quarter panel of the
vehicle. Damage is estimated at
$75.
A second vehicle was
damaged between Friday evening
and Saturday morning while it
was parked in "F" Let.
According to the report, tail
lights and a side remote mirror
\yere broken and other items were
destroyed. Damage to the
vehicle, which is owned by a
male resident student, is
estimated at over $2OO.

Behrend represents Syria at conference in Michigan

Nine Behrend students
currently enrolled in History
297 A, "Model Arab League,"
represented Syria at the Third
Annual Midwest Model of the
Arab League recently held in
Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The nine students who
attended the meeting were Jason
Fichtner, Edith Bernat, Alicia
Gebhardt, James Hall, Scott
Flynn, Darrell Freund, Catherine
Rozumny and Pascale Lakkis.
"The purpose for participating
in this meeting was to involve
students in the current issues
pertaining to the Arab world and
to teach them how the Arab
League functions," said Dr. Peter
Hahn, assistant professor of
history.

Driving Under the Influence
charges were filed against a 22-
year-old, non-student early
Saturday morning. According to
the report, the defendant was
driving erratically in a vehicle
with equipment violations and
was stopped by campus police.
The defendant, who refused to
submit a breath sample for
analysis, was arrested and later
released to a friend.
Police stats
March statistics released by
the department report that campus
police responded to 14 criminal
incidents that resulted in three
arrests. They performed 3,463
building checks and issued 614
parking tickets.
Lost and found
Hoffman submitted the
following list of lost and found
Spanish dance group.
As for food, the dishes will be
a small and simple display of the
countries culture. There will be a
Latin American fried foods, Greek
baklava, and candies, not to
mention many other ethnic
dishes.
The Latin American countries
will have a tropical, Caribbean
hut as their stand with three
foot pineapples as decor.
"The university has been
encouraging and sponsoring
diversity, so faculty, staff, and
students should come see what
it's all about through this cultural
and ethnic event," stated Luis
Mongil, president of the
Organization of Latin American
"I chose for the class to
represent Syria because it’s
presently at the center of the
most controversy in the Middle
East," said Hahn.
"It was fun and I learned a lot.
You really get a better
understanding of what actually
goes on," replied Lakkis.
To prepare for the meeting,
the students attended lectures and
discussions on the League and
Syria, received written briefing
materials from the Syrian
Embassy, and interviewed former
U.S. Ambassador to Syria,
Talcott Seelye.
The students then wrote draft
resolutions which they presented
and defended at the meeting.

umbrellas, a three-ring binder, a
physics notebook, an English
literature textbook, a lightweight
jacket, and several keys.
Library theft
Library personnel reported the
theft of a copier key, valued at
$6O, from the library copy room.
The theft occurred between
Thursday evening and Friday
morning. Campus police are
investigating.
Underage drinking
A 19-year-old male was cited
for underage drinking early Friday
morning. Hoffman's report states
that an officer of his department
observed the defendant walking
through the Apartment Quad
while carrying several 32-ounce
bottles of beer-one of which was
opened. The report indicates that
the defendant was not a Penn
State-Bchrend student.

He added, "Behrend's
becoming more exposed to
minorities and people should
become more knowledgeable for
other students' cultures."
He also expressed hope that
SGA will ratify the OLAS
constitution making it an official
club.
ABC has established a multi
cultural committee for the
celebration. It will present Egypt
through fashion, art, and history.

ABC, SPC, SGA, and the
Residence Life Staff will be
sponsoring the program.

History 297 A has never been
offered before at Behrend, but due
to the increasing interest in the
class, there are future plans to
offer it every spring so that
students may continue to
participate in the meeting of the
Midwest Model of the Arab
League.
