30, 1990. Applications must include a
written statement of the candidate's
journalistic qualifications, his/her editorial
philosophy , his/her assessments of the
current strengths and weaknesses of The
Collegian, and his /her plans for organization
of staff members. Applications should be
turned in to Dr. Chris Reber, Dean of Student
Services.

learning about other cultures.
Don't think of it as extra, as
frosting. Just as one should know
something about mathematics,
political science, literature,
history, science, one should
know these other things in order
to be truly educated. When
women's studies and black studies
programs die out, I'll be in the
cheering section, because it will
mean that the mainstream of the

knowledge and achievements.
This university and this
college are trying haid to hear the
unheard voices, and I am proud of
being a pan of this process. Our
local administration is trying, and
Provost Lilley should be
encouraged. Our student services
staff are right at the heart of the
effort—Chris Reber, Elvage
Murphy, John Downey, David
Shields, Biddy Brooks, Gerald
Spates, P.J. Brown.
Chris, you have a real
opportunity here. Is there any

room for you to change your
mind about this? You say it
gives you a headache. Take an
ibuprofin and then come to a
cultural diversity event, where
you'll probably find that every
viewpoint is welcomed, including
your own. There's a race relations
forum in Reed Lecture Hall on
3/15 at 7:30. I'd like to see you
there.
