She is now the all-time leader in scoring and rebounding. Madison has surpassed the 1104 points by Sue Holmes (1983-86) and the 623 rebounds by Natalie Kuhn (1979-83). Madison is a S'lO" forward and is a senior this year. This is her fourth season for Behrend and has been a starter for the past three years and the latter pan of her freshman year. Madison began playing basketball in die seventh grade. She was introduced to the sport by her brother and her friends. Madison attended Bradford Central Christian High, a small private school in Bradford, Pa. Madison says that playing at Bradford ami for Behrend have been pretty similar, and that made the adjustment for playing at Women's Basketball Lady Lions fall to Division 111 Number One St. John Fisher by Robert Kitchen Collegian Staff Writer The Lady Lions have found that its not any safer outside of Erie Hall. After a tough loss to Buffalo State on January 22, the lady hoopsters went on the road in search of their seventh victory of the season. So far the road has been harsh, with losses to Grove City College (last Wednesday) and St John Fisher. Unless they come up with a win at Oberlin College tonight, they are in danger of coming home with a 6- 13 record. She wasn't even sure she would play basketball beyond the high school level. In making her decision to attend college at Behrend, Madison replied, "I thought a Penn State degree would be the best for me." Coming from a small school, she liked Behrend's atmosphere and smaller classrooms. As Coach Jenepher Banker took to the scene as the new head coach for the women's team at the start of the 'BB-89 season, Michele said, "It was a hard adjustment and it took awhile to get used to her style." She said Coach Banker has really helped her out a lot Madison said of Banker's coaching style, "She wants to win, and that's what Behrend needs." When asked about team unity, Michele says they all get along and there are no Behrend managed nine makes in 18 dips to the line. The women's basketball team suffered a 54-51 loss to the Grove City Lady Wolverines at Grove City on January 24. The game was the first of a three-game road swing. The Lady Lions were up 26- 22 at the end of the first half, but were out scored by the host Lady Wolverines, 32-25, in period two. Madison led Behrend's offense with 17 points. Madison said, "No one was moving on offense and we were lazy on defense. We had more talent than Grove City and definitely should have won that game." Freshman Lori Nadolny comments on the Grove City game by saying, "We weren’t playing to our potential" and "We were all disappointed." Behrend's current record is 6- 12. The Lady Lions travel to Oberlin College today for a 7:30 pm game. The women cagers will return to Erie Hall this Saturday afternoon for a tilt with Elmira College. Game time is 4 pm. Even though Madison may tally up the most numbers in the box score, she knows that the contribution of her teammates is important. She says, "If it weren't for teammates, it (the scoring and rebounding records) wouldn't mean anything. It's totally team." Madison says her family has been very supportive in her athletic career. Her parents play an important role and come to see her play whenever they can. A message Madison wants to get across to freshman team members is that "We're a good team and we have a bright future. By the time they're seniors they're going to be awesome if they stay with it." Madison says that everyone should definitely get involved in collegiate sports. She focuses on the aspect of seeing different places where she hasn't been and meeting new people. Out of many possible choices for her most memorable sports memory at Behrend, Madison has chosen two. The first one was as a freshman against Buffalo State. Behrend was loosing by 15 at the half. They came back to win in the second half, with Madison canning the game-winning shot. The second memorable moment was against Mercyhurst College during her sophomore year. In this contest, Madison fouled out early hi the second half, hut that is not why the game is special to her. It gave her a chance to sit on the bench and "watch the team come together and win” What does the future hold for Madison? She says after graduation she is going to look for a job in the management field. Madison clearly points out that she will be involved somewhere in sports in the years to come.
