Page 8 Renovation project to start next spring Starting next Spring, construction of a two-story addition to Erie Hall will begin. The project will cost approximately one million dollars and will include more gymnasium floor space, new training facilities and a lift for handicapped students. Athletic Director Herb Lauffer, while pleased that the athletic facilities-at Behrend will be improving, says this is only a temporary measure. "This is only a band-aid approach," said Lauffer. "It will tide us over until we get a bigger building." The ground floor will have a new suite of offices for the staff, additional classrooms, new locker rooms, a new training room, and public restrooms. The second floor will hold the additional 48 feet of gymnasium floor space, a new lobby and a Lions net lose at home A season that was looked upon with much promise, continues as a series of missed opportunities. The Behrend men's soccer team was 0-1-1 last week after settling for a 1-1 overtime tie at Westminster and suffering a 1-0 setback against Grove City. The Lions are now 3-10-3 for the season with only three games remaining. On Saturday, at Westminster (6-3-2), the Lions were able to force the extra period when David Beck converted a second half ienalty kick. The penalty kick resulted from -a Titan foul inside the 18 yard line. Despite continued pressure and a total of 16 shots on goal, Behrend was unable to notch the game-winner. Lion keeper Ken Gronholm turned in a solid effort. Lance Damaska's goal in the first half Lady three by Mike Lesher Collegian Staff Writer October 18 proved to be a tough day for the Behrend women's volleyball team. The girls dropped both matches of a tri-match contest against Geneseo and Allegheny Colleges. On Saturday, the lady spikers split their two matches, defeating Carnegie-Mellon University and almost upsetting St. John Fisher (7-15, 15-8, 13-15), who entered the contest with a 29-1 record. In Wednesday's match against Geneseo, Erica Scribner played one of her best games. She played flawlessly at the net Sports concession stand. Also, the stage will be walled off and the room created will be used for storage of sports equipment. Lauffer also stressed that the renovations will bring more than just the much needed practice space to Erie Hall. Lauffer said that, "It will help the morale of our professional staff and will also help our recruiting. It will also provide some safety." While Behrend may be gaining some much needed space for both varsity practices and physical education classes, some athletic needs still won't be filled. The campus will still not have an indoor track, raquetball courts, or an indoor swimming pool. According to Lauffer, "We don't . want to put too much money into Erie Hall because we don't•want to hurt our chances for a new facility." road tie, was the only shot to get by Gronholm as he turned aside 17 of 18 shots. Head Coach Herb Lauffer said, "Overall, we played a pretty solid game. The opportunities were there for more goals, but we just didn't execute as well as we could of offensively." Prior to this contest, the Lions lost another one goal affair when they dropped their home match with the Grove City Wolverines on October 18. Lance Sabados netted the game-winner for the visitors with an unassisted tally at the 25:40 mark of the second half. Unfortunately, things will not get any easier for the Lions when they visit the Gannon Knights (10-2-1) today at 3 pm at Scott Park. Behrend will close out the home portion of their schedule against Houghton College on Saturday. Spikers lose of last four smashing eleven kills. Kelly Kingston with contributing three serving aces and seven kills. In Saturday's matches, Kingston continued to play well, leading the team with nine kills. Kelly Jordan, Pam Allshouse, and Scribner contributed four serving aces each. Behrend played extremely tough despite losing against powerhouse St. John Fisher.
