The Collegian Wednesday, October 25,1989 Rangers On Saturday, the members of. the Behrend ROTC Ranger Club participated in an overnight field training exercise. Cadet Andy McConnell instructed the Rangers in the principals of land navigation. They learned how to travel with a Map and compass, and were also taught how to locate themselves on the map or- find a specific location. • • • • :• On; Sunday* morning ; :: the Rangers moved- to - a land navigation course set up by Cadet Dean Meinert. The course covered a good portion- of Wintergreen Gorge, but none of the-Rangers got lost, and most of - the points were found. At 10 am on Sunday morning, the ciub•wasreleased and all of the Rangers headed home for much needed sleep. As sore and tired as they were; all the Rangeis admitted they had a good time. Reports indicate no damage to the university's vehicle and minor damage to the vehicle hit. A female student called the department on October 19 to learn the identity of the owner of a car she had scraped while attempting to park in C lot. Police investigated and determined that compete Also during the past weekend, the Ranger Challenge team competed at Edinboro in a Ranger Head-to-Head Competition. The competition consisted of a 10 kilometer road march, a grenade throw, rifle and machine gun assembly, rope bridge constructions and. crossing, and a physical fitness test consisting of timed push-ups, sit-ups, and a two mile run. The Behrend team. took first place in weapons assembly, and second in the rope bridge. Behrend tied with Edinboro for second overall, with Gannon and Clarion finishing first and fourth respectively. The Ranger Challenge team will be in action again on November 2, when they will be competing in a state wide competition with 32 other ROTC Ranger Challenge teams at Fort Indiantown Gap.
