Rusher and Morton M. Kondracke, will be held at 8 pm Saturday in Erie Hall. "It will be a free-wheeling, up-to-the-minute debate examining the Bush administration's record on critical issues such as education, drugs and crime, domestic and foreign policy, and other` "issues of interest to the audience," said Assistant Dean of Student Services David Shields. Rusher, a conservative Republican, has been influential in domestic politics for the past 30 years. He has served as publisher of the National Review since 1957, and also as a spokesman on television's "The Advocates," which earned several Emmy awards. Currently, Rusher writes a syndicated newspaper SGA adopts food report Members of the Student Government Association have adopted a report finding that Behrend's food services personel have provided sufficient justification for its policies regarding hours and food prices. A section of the report is as follows: Housing and Food Services has agreed to return Wintergreen hours back to those of spring Dr. Redenius was political science professor for 16 years Dr. Charles M. Redenius, a Behrend professor of political science for the past 16 years, died Sunday morning at St. Vincent Health Center. He had been ill for more than a year, suffering from a brain tumor which cut short his semester in the fall of last year. Redenius, a well-known scholar of both China and of the American court system, had been a recipient of the Behrend College' Council of Fellows Excellence in Research Award. o e •iarl column and speaks professionally across the country. Kondracke is the senior editor of The New Republic , where he writes editorials and articles about foreign policy and domestic politics. Kondracke and Rusher have debated-a few thnesprevioqsly:— In the past; Behrend's 'debates have featured such notables as William F. Buckley, George McGovern, Phyllis Schlafly, and Sarah Weddington. While previous debates have featured a standardized agenda, this year's event will have less of an established structure. Questions from the audience will guide the topics for discussion. A graduate of Muskegon Catholic High School, in Muskegon, Michigan, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years before earning his bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and his doctorate from the University of Michigan. During his teaching career he wrote several textbooks, William Rusher Morton Kondracke including Introduction to Political Science and The American Ideal of Equality, and was the principal author of The American Republic. In 1977 he was named a fellow of the National Endowment for the Humanities at the University of California at Santa Barbara: He was awarded the Bel rend Research Award in 1988. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Betit Redenius, who is an elementary school teacher. Volleyball team sweeps home tr-- match - Page 11 Volume XXXVIII, No. 5 SGA sponsors weekend events Numerous events have been planned in conjunction with Parents Weekend, according to Dean of Student Services Chris Reber. The weekend's activities, which are sponsored by SGA, are set to begin this Friday and continue through Sunday. Friday's events include the 50's Dinner, "Four Guys Standing Around . Singing," and a lionfii - e/pep assembly , for the soccer team. A candlelight dinner and the debate are among Saturday's highlights. The Zagst-Feldman duo, members of the Penn State faculty at University Park, will conclude the weekend. Parents weekend at Behrend has been in existence since the early 1980's. "It encourages parents to visit the campus," says Reber, "during a nice time of the year." For students who do not go home often, it is also an opportunity to spend time with their families, Reber adds. Students and their families are not limited to the events planned at Behrend. Some may choose to spend a day in Erie. It is not too late for parents and families to make reservations, notes Reber. Space has been reserved at discounted rates at local lodgings.
