Lovers, Winners and Losers
The Behrend Matchbox Players are currently putting on a
production of Lovers, Winners and Losers - a comedy by Brian
Friel. The production is divided into two one act plays. The first is
a comic love story about a young Irish couple trying to study for
their final exams so they can get graduate and get married. The play
has a tragic twist, however, as off-stage narration tells the audience
early on that the two lovers will die before the day is out. A heart
warming sorrow hushes over the theater as the two characters
charm the audience into laughter even though they know the couple
will die.
The second play has a more cheerful atmosphere and is about a
middle-aged couple trying to get together under the ever watchful
eyes of an invalid mother. The action has the audience crying from
laughter and is a perfect compliment to the first, more sombre
performance.
The production is well worth the cost of admission as you will
leave the theater not knowing whether to laugh, cry or both. The
plays are being shown throughout the ' week ar the Behrend
Matchbox theater under the auspices of director Steve Buckwald.
Get your tickets soon for the show is a cinch to sell out.
