The Collegian Wednesday, March 15 High Flying Lions - Rick Demski - - Bob Minford - by Todd J. Irwin Collegian Staff Writer The Lion Cagers' very impressive season ended on a rather disappointing note in their playoff appearance on March 4 against Frostburg State. Both teams shot below their averages as the contest went right to the line. A controversial call with only 11 seconds remaining turned the ball over to Frostburg, giving them a chance to overcome Behrend's one point lead, 79-78. Frostburg capitalized for two on a low percentage shot that, according to Coach Zimmerman, would have been made only once out of 15 or 20 times. " It was the kind of shot that, as a coach (for the defending team) I like to see taken at the point in the game," said Zimmerman. Unfortunately for the Lions, the shot fell with two seconds remaining on the clock, and brought their season to a end. Dave Gurska led the Lions with 18 points including five three pointers. Rick Demski poured in 17 points and grabbed eight boards. The Lions finished at 15-11, and despite the playoff loss, weremther pleased with their-gen-cm - - Coach Zimmerman echoed the same sentiments, "I had some serious concerns on the first day of practice, lack of experience and size were two of them, but this team had great chemistry and always found a way to get things done." The Lions are only expecting to lose one player, senior Bob Minford, and are looking forward to next season with high expectations. Not without reason. - Moise Pringle - - Randy Baughman - - Mike Colucci - Page
