Rock'n Greenpeace
by Nanette Quatchak
Entertainment Editor
First there was "U.S.A. for
Africa," then there was Farm Aid
and now there's "The Greenpeace
Album." What, you ask, is
Greenpeace and why do they have
an album? Well, Greenpeace is a
non-profit organization that
concerns itself with toxic waste
problems, they protest nuclear
weapons testing and producing,
and they promote the importance
of keeping our environment (land
and sea) clean. The most well
known issue that Greenpeace is
'associated with is the saving of
the whales. Yes, whales do sing
but they are not the ones who
will be singing on "The
Greenpeace Album." In fact, this
album contains one of the most
diversified group of rock
performers that have ever been
assembled on one album. The
Grateful Dead, U 2, Peter Gabriel,
and the Talking Heads appear on
this album among others.
All of these performers went
to the Soviet Union to make this
album in order to draw attention
to the environmental problems
that our world is experiencing.

The album, which will be the

distributed in both the eastern and
western hemispheres,will be
released this spring.
"Melodiya," which is the label
that will appear on the Soviet
version, is pressing four million

within hours of its release. As
for the United States, there has
been no estimate on the number
of albums that will be -produced,
but Geffen Records will be the
producer and distributor.
Each album will contain a
booklet describing the work that
Greenpeace does and it will be
printed in Russian, Italian,
Spanish, German, and English.
All of the proceeds from the
album sales will go to
Greenpeace in order to encourage
cooperation and stimulate public
awareness of the global
environmental crises.
So, if you would like to hear
a multiplicity of some of rock's
all-time greats, this album is one
that you should not miss. Not
only will you be getting an
