Behrend Briefs
Health Center Hours Physician hours are: Wednesday
and Thursday, 1 pm-4 pm. Nurse practicioner hours are: Monday
and Tuesday, 1 pm-10 pm; Wednesday and Thursday, 8 am-1 pm;
Friday, 8 am-5 pm. The Health Center is open Monday through
Thursday, 8 am-10 pm; Friday, 8 - am-9 pm; Saturday, 9 am-1
pm.
Freshmen The Alpha Eta Chapter of Lambda Sigma at
Behrend is beginning its selection process for membership in
next year's society. Membership is limited to the most select
members of the freshman class. Students must meet academic
criteria determined by the organization, be a full-time student,
have leadership capabilities, and must have had previous
involvement in extracurricular activities both in and out of
school. For more information, contact M.C. Restifo at 898-

898-6207.
Photography Scholarship New Photographers
Association of Greater Pittsburgh is offering a scholarship for
students from Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair,
Butler, Cambria, Clarion, Crawford, Fayette, Greene, Indiana,
Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset, Venango, Washington,
and Westmorland counties. Students must submit a portfolio of
ten original photographs. Applications are available in the
Financial Aid Office, 221 Glenhill. The deadline is March 31.
Housing Fair 'B9 Housing Fair 'B9 will be held this
Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm at University Park in the
Hetzel Union Building. Students moving to U.P. next fall will
be given the opportunity to explore living options available in
University residence halls and off-campus apartment complexes
in the area.
Quality Sciences -Scholarships- _ The American
Society for Quality Control, Energy division, has two
scholarships available. Students pursuing a career in the Quality
Sciences, statistics, quality planning and management, etc.
should apply. More information is available in the Financial Aid
Office, 221 Glenhill. The deadline is April 30, 1989.
ABWA Scholarship The Presque Isle Chapter of
American Businesswomen's Association is offering a scholarship
to women who need financial assistance to continue their
education. Information is available in the financial Aid Office,
221 Glenhill Farmhouse. The deadline is March 31, 1989.
Counseling Personal counseling and support groups are
available. Stop in at 213 Glenhill Farmhouse Monday through
Friday from 9 am to 5 pm or call 898-6203. Appointments can
be made in the Financial Aid Office.
Adopt-A-School Volunteers Needed More student
volunteers are needed for the Adopt-A-School program. Last fall,
Behrend officially adopted Diehl Elementary School. Pre-School
and the two special education classes have not been officially
adopted•by a student club or organization. Individuals can also
volunteer their time to work with these classes. Anyone
interested should contact Mari Trenkle at 6230.
Junker Scholarship The Junker Scholarship is available
to student leaders. For an application, see Mary-Ellen Madigan in
the Financial Aid Office, ext. 6162 or John Downey in Student
Services, ext. 6111. The submission deadline for applications if
Feb. 24.
Scholarship The National Roofing Foundation is offering
three $4,000 scholarships for 1989-90. Students majoring in
architecture or engineering are encouraged to apply. Applications
are available in the Financial Aid Office, 221 Glcnhill.
Non-Traditional Student Support Group A
support group will meet on Thursdays in Reed 1 - 16 at 5:15 pm.
Louanne Barton, staff psychologist, will be on hand to help
facilitate discussions on concerns such as anxiety, loneliness,
relationships, self-perception, goals, and multiple roles. Bring a
brown bag if you like.
Drug and Alcohol Awareness
Behrend is observing National
Collegiate Drug Awareness Week
this week with a series of
workshops and other activities.
The Chemical People will
present a display from 10 am to 2
pm today outside of the
Wintergreen Cafe. There will be a
workshop on drug testing in the
workplace tonight from 7-8 in
the Apartment Community
Center. The workshop will be
presented by Michael Herrmann,
Director of the Serenity Recovery
Center, Drug and Alcohol
Program at Saint Vincent Health
Center.
On Thursday, Behrend's
Health Nurse Mary Anne Weiner
will give a presentation entitled
"Getting High Naturally." The
workshop will be held from 7-8
pm in the Reed Seminar Room
(116).
On Monday, Behrend's nurse
practitioner Patty McMahon
presented a workshop on the rise
of AIDS on college campuses.
A workshop on intervention
was given by Bob Benacci in
Lawrence Lobby on Tuesday
night. Benacci, the Employee
Assistance Program Coordinator
at Saint Vincent gave advice for
identifying and helping an
individual with a drug or alcohol
problem.
