The Behrend Lady Lions broke
out of their losing streak last
Wednesday with a 72-59 win over
Grove City College in the
friendly confines of Erie Hall.
On Saturday, John Carroll
University was the victim as the
Lady Lions prevailed, 76-69.
Against the Grove City Lady
Wolverines, Lisa Butch scored a
game high 24 points on 10 of 13
shooting. As a team, Behrend
outshot Grove City 45 percent to
39 percent from the field and
held the edge at the foul line, 64
percent to 47 percent.
The first half started slowly as
Grove City's pressure man-to
man defense caused turnovers on
the first four Lady Lion
possessions. The fifth possession
got Behrend on the scoreboard as
Butch hit her first shot of the
night.
An aggressive Lady Lions
defense caused Grove City to
miss many inside shots as they
went on to shoot a woeful 30
percent in the first half.
Neither team was able to
establish control of the game, but
the Lady Lions were able to
establish a 31-28 lead after the
first 20 minutes.
The second half began -with
Grove City grabbing the early
momentum and the lead, using a
10-3 run , making the count 38-
34.
The Lady Lions stayed close
until the 13:22 mark, when
Grove City cranked out eight
unanswered points for a 49-42
lead. Believe it or not, the Lady
Lions had the Lady Wolverines
right were they wanted them.
After sitting out almost eight
minutes because of foul trouble,
Butch returned and promptly shot
the Lady Lions into the lead.
Behrend outscored Grove City
10-0 in the next 2:30 to regain
the lead, as Butch poured in three
baskets to make the count 52-49.
Once the Lady Lions had the
lead, they made sure to keep it.
They coasted to victory as they
limited Grove City to six points
while scoring 16 in the final six
minutes to provide the final score
of 72-59.
In addition to Butch's 24,
Michele Madison and Lisa
Dorenkamp added 12 and 13
points respectively.

timely nine points to go along
with four boards and two steals.
For Grove City, Patty Brain
had 20 points plus 12 rebounds.
Carolyn Corchrane pumped in 17

The victory was the second of
the year for the Lady Lions over
the Grove City Wolverines. The
Lady Lions stole a one point
victory at the Arena in Grove
City. Behrend raised its record to
4-11, while dropping Grove City
to 6-7.
On Saturday, the John Carroll
University Blue Streaks fell into
the 'pit'. The Lady Lions started
quickly, building a 12-4 lead
from the opening tip.
The Blue Streaks stayed close,
and eventually went on top, 20-
18 with just over 10 minutes
remaining in the half.
The lead changed hands twice
more before the Lady Lions
forced the issue and took the lead
for good four minutes later. Lisa
Dorenkarnp hit 3-point bombs on
consecutive *sessions to make
it 38-25.
John Carroll's forward
Julianna Klocek fired in five
points in a 27 second span to
bring the Blue Streaks close
again. Tammy Alston answered
back with two baskets, one off of
a steal, the other with :05 ticks
on the clock.
The Lady Lions rippled the
cords in the opening half with 64
percent field goal shooting. John
Carroll shot a steady 39 percent
from the field.
The second 20 minutes started
much like the first 20 ended, with
the Lady Lions in control. That
changed at the 11:15 mark, as the
Blue Streaks started to comeback.
Trailing by 12, John Carroll
ran off seven straight points to
cut the Behrend lead to 61-56.
The Behrend 5-goint lead
lasted for nearly five minutes on
the strength of a Dorenkamp
outside shot and a Madison
layup.
A 6-1 run capped off with a
basket by John Carroll's Klocek
with 2:44 remaining in the game
cut the lead to one at 67-66.
After a John Carroll time-out
with 2:29 on the clock, Madison,
