Who can dispute testimony like that V (."There Is a great deal of modesty in this world which will gaze at almost anything, provided it can be seen through a crack. A visit to the seashore will prove this. (3 A circus manager wanted a new name for his show, and a sophomore collegian suggested " monohippio aggre gation" as good, and the circus man had got three towns billed before he was in formed that "monohippio" meant "one-horse." yA committee on tableaux at a cen tennial celebration in Vermont Issued an invitation asking "all the pretty women in town" to meet at the ball to take part in the tableaux, and every woman in the place came to time. That committee knew how to get plenty of help. tSTYoung Fred, bashful yet persist ent swain, was very much In love with Mary Jane. One night she told him in her teuderest tone, 41 It is not good for man to be alone." Bald Fred, " Jest so, you darling little elf, I've often thought of that same thing myself." Then said the lass while Fred was all . agog. " You ought to buy yourself a terrier dog." lie went and left. EiTThey stopped, and looked, and commented upon his being drunk or asleep. Finally one said, " O come along can't you see the fellow's drunk V' Up came the head of the drowsy Individual, and his eyes half unclosed, leered at the , man who had just spoken as he answer ed with a big oath, " Yes, I'm-er-drunk, but I can-er-get over that. Meeting the collector the young man asked : "Did you get the money V" "Yes, he paid up." " How much are you going to charge me?" " Well, I tell you, I rather like your looks. I ought to charge you some thing, but I won't. I'll just keep the $25 and call it even." He Remembered the Text. A pious old lady, who was too unwell to attend meeting, sent her thick-headed husband to church to find out the text the preacher selected as the foundation of his discourse. The poor dunce was rarely fortunate enough to remember the words of the text, or even the chap ter and verse where they could be found ; but one Sabbath he ran home in hot haste, informed his wife that he could repeat every word, with out missing a syllable. The words were as follows : " An angel came down from beaven and took a live coal from the altar." " Know every word," replied the hus band. " I am anxious to hear it," continued the wife. " They are nice words," observed the husband. " I am glad your memory ia improv ing ; but don't keep me in suspense, my dear," said she. " Just get your big Bible, and I will say the words, for I know them by heart. I aald them a hundred times on my way home." " Well, let's hear them." " Ahem I" said he, clearing his throat. "An Injun came down from New Ha ven and took a live colt by the tail and jerked him out of the halter !" The memory of one-half who attend church is very similar to the above.
