tjulck work and good tews,
The Court has decided that Mr. Spang,
ler has a $300 interest in the hole where
Dr. Sweeney's building once stood. It
was never supposed to be a dangerous
place till Spangler made the discovery,
and we suggput that as such discoverer,
the hole should belong to him, and he
ought to remove it.
There are however hundreds of places
in the county more dangerous, and it
would be good policy for tne proper au
thorities to care for them, if this decision
is to be recognized as sound law.
Banquet to Judge Junkln.-
don Globe of last week
The Hunting.
Bays: A testl-
rnonlul banquet was tendered Judge
Junkln at the Leister House on Saturday
night by the members of the Hunting
don bar. There were about thirty per
sons present, and the festivities were
kept up until almost twelve o'olock.
Speech making and the usual pleasant
ries were Indulged In, and last, but not
least, all partook of a sumptuous repast
specially gotten up for the occasion by
Mr. Leister. It was a pleasant aftulr and
one long to be remember by all who par
ticiputed. Among the guests was Judge
Orvls, of the Centre district. Judge
Dean could not be present.

Conrt Proceedings.--On Wednesday of
last week, the 18th Inst., an interesting
case was argued before Judge Bucher,'ln
the Court House.
Some time Blnce the borough . authori
ties of Bloomfleld contracted for the
building of an engine house on the
vacant Tot forming the South East cor
ner of the publlo square. At the instance
of Hon. C. J. T. M'lntlre, who is the
owner of an adjoining lot, an injunction
was issued by Judge Junkln to restrain
the Borough authorities from the erec
tion of the building. The position taken
by the plf., was, that the lot upon which
the proposed building was to be erected,
had been dedicated to the public for the
location of a market house, and that the
authorities had no right to pervert it
from the particular purpose of its dedi
cation. Upon the other side it was con
tended that the dedication was to the
Borough of Bloomfleld ; the fee vested
iu the corporation and if there was no
necessity for the erection of a market
house that the Borough was not com-
fielled to hold it as a vacant and value
ess lot but that they could use It for
such purpose as they saw proper until
the necessity for the erection of a mar
ket house became apparent. Very able
and exhaustive arguments were made
by the counsel on both sides. His
Honor holds the case over for considera
tion and will file his opinion hereafter.

TtLi ,o8?Tn U t,ln,?rh looar Officers Elected.-The following
Bucher read an opinion upon the re- x ,,.,., , , , .. .
served point in the case of Spanirler vs.yP8 a llst of the oncers elected throughout
xne JHorougn or juioomneid. it will be
remembered that in this case the de
fendant who was a stranger, fell into an
excavation about 6 feet deep on theS
premises of Dr. Sweeney on the South
west corner of the publlo square on the
2nd of March, 1878, by which he receiv
ed very severe injuries. The pavement
where the accident occurred was at that
time of the required width, and in good
condition, but there was no guard or
barrier to prevent persons from falling
over. Upon the trial of the case it was
argued that there was no negligence on
the part of the Borough, because the ex
cavation was on private ground and it
would have been trespass to have invad
ed private premises to erect a guard or
railing, while to have placed it within
the required width of the pavement
would have been to expose the Borough
to an action for damages by any person
who might have been injured thereon.
The jury were instructed that it was
the duty of the Borough to have pro
tected the side walk, but the question
whether it was the duty of the Borough
authorities under the circumstances to
place a guard or a barrier there for the
protection of the traveler using the pave
ment, aud whether they were guilty of
negligence in not doing so was reserved
a point of law for the judgment of the
Court Under the instructions, the jury
found a verdict of $300 for Plaintiff. A
motion was made for a new trial. Upon
the reserved point his Honor in an elab
orate and very careful opinion decides
that under the circumstances In this case,
the Borough was guilty of negligence in
permitting the pavement to be unpro
tected by guards or barriers, and over
rules the motion for a new trial, and
directs judgment to be entered upon the
verdict.

On Saturday night between ten and
eleven o'clock our citizens were startled
by the cry of fire. A rush was made
lowurd the engine houses and the bells
were rung, but the discovery was soon
made that the lire was out of town, and
in the direction of Mt. Holly. We
learned since then that the lire which
caused the alarm, was the wairon shed
Nand corncrlb of Mr. C. H. Mulliu at Mt.
lllolly, and that it was without doubt set
lon Are. The loss was comparatively
light and without any insurance.
On Tuesday last Mr. John Bashore's
team of six horses became frightened at
the rattling of a log chain and ran away.
The rare presence of mind and steady
nerve of Mr. B. alone prevented what
might have been a terrible accident. On
the same day a two horse team owned
by the ltev. Simon Bhumbarger, ran
away and threw the reverend gentleman
into the Conodoguinet creek. A man
who saw the whole a flair, secured the
horses and hastened to the relief of Mr.
S. (who by this time had reached dry
land) and was pleased to And hlin all
right, having suffered nothing but a
"complete sousing."
On Sunday night some one without
the fear of the law before his eyes, broke
a window in the rear of Ahl's warehouse
at the crossing of East Main street and
South Mountain railaoad, occupied by
C. Inhoff, agent for the sale of coal oil.
Once inside of the building, a Are was
kindled against a partition and the Are
bug slunk away. The next morning
the paper and charred sticks were found
scattered over the Aoor. The feed for
the warehouse cat was usually thrown
in the corner where the Are was started
which accounts for the scattering of the
kindling; out whether the cat scattered
them after the Are went out or before it
is not known. It Is hard to Imagine
why anyone would desire to burn this
property, but equally certain that there
is some candidate for a long term in the
penitentiary lurking auout town

Employment For Ladle.
Tbe Queen Cltr Suspender Company of
Cincinnati, are now manufacturing and
Introducing their new Stocking Support
ers for Ladies and Children and their
unequalled Skirt Suspenders for Ladles.
None should be without them: our
lending physicians recommend them,
and are loud In their praise. This man
facturlng establishment is managed by
ladles who have made the wants of
ladles and children a study, and they
ask us to refer them to some reliable and
energetic lady to introduce them in this
county, and we certainly think that an
earnest solicitation In every household
would meet with a ready response, aud
that a determined woman could mako a
handsome salary and have the exclusive
agency for this county. We advise
some lady who is In need of employ
ment to send a postal card to tne com
pany, with her name and address, and
mention this naner. Address. (J.upcn
