Tuesday's Elections.
The result of the elections on Tues
day last may be thus summed up : In
PENNSYLVANIA
The Republican State Ticket was elected
by over 58,000 majority.
NEW YORK
Elects Cornell, Republican, for Gov
ernor ; Totter, Democrat, for Lieutenant
Governor, and elects a Legislature and
that Is Republican.
MASSACHUSETTS
Declines to have Butler for Governor,
nnd elects Long, Republican, by a ma
jority of about 3,000.
MARYLAND
Is Democratic by a majority supposed to
be not less than 17,000.
MISSISSIPPI
Elects the straight Democratic State
ticket in most of the counties, though
the Greenbackers carried several coun
ties. There was no Republican ticket
placed in nomination, except in Vicks
burg. MINNESOTA
Elects Pillsbury, Republican, for Gov
ernor, by 12,C00 and the balance of the
Republican State ticket by nearly 14,000.
WISCONSIN
Elects a Republican Governor and other
State officers by about 20,000 majority.
NEBRASKA '
Elects Cobb, Republican, to the Supreme
bench by about 13,000 majority, and
elects the other Republican candidates.
Among the curiosities of this elec
tion is the fact that Cumberland county
elects a Republican Sheriff, while Juni
ata county, from a split in the Demo
cratic party, does the fame thing.
Talking Two Thousand Miles Apart.
Mr. Robert A. Parker, Superintendent
Pennsylvania and New York Railroad,
is at present hunting with a party in the
vicinity of North Bend, in Nebraska.
Yesterday he for two hours conversed
pleasantly with his wife and friends at
Sayre, his brother at Mauch Chunk and
friends along the line. The medium was
the railroad and Western Union Tele
graph wires and Edison's telephone. At
the office in this place connection was
made with the Easton and Amboy wire,
and at Perth Amboy with a Western
Union wire, and thence to Chicago and
North Bend. The total distance was
about 2000 miles, and every whisper was
audible. Bethlehem Times.
0"Henry Lynn, residing near Littles
town, Adams county ,while endeavoring
to extricate a pig that had become fast
in the fence, was attacked by a number
of hogs that had become enraged on
account of the squealing of the plgsj and
a number of gashes were torn in his
person, as well as some bones broken in
one of his hands, and he would doubt
less have been killed by the infuriated
animals had not the women of the house
driven them off by pouring scalding
water over them, after having ineffectu
ally tried to do so with clubs.
A foolish Man.
A young man named Lester Bartlett,
bearing a good name sold out his business
at Randolph, N. Y., and then claimed to
have been robbed. Suspicion resting upon
him, he was searched Tuesday evening,
and tbe money was found in hU possession.
He then shot himself through the head and
died soon after.
Cincinnati, October 28. At Ilammez,
Ohio, last night Isaao Muncy, colored was
shot through the heart by a man named
Bnodgrass at a bouse of ill fame. Both
men were intoxicated and began quarrel
ing over a trifling matter, with the result
above stated.
tW A colored man killed a white man
with a bludgeon in an election difficulty in
Anne Arundal county, lid., Tuesday.
