An Infantile View,
This Is the view taken of It by an
infant of Bt. Joseph, Missouri.
Little Freddie was undergoing the
disagreeable operation of having his hair
combed by his mother, aud he grumbled
at the manoeuvre.
" Why, Freddie," said mamma, you
ought not to make such a fuss. I don't
fuss and cry when my hair is comb
ed." "Yes," replied the youthful party,
"but your hair ain't hitched to your
head."
A Girl's Reason.
A preacher was one day struck with
surprise on beholding a beautiful set of
curls on the head of a lovely maid, a
member of his class, whose hair had
been usually plain. "Ah Eliza," said
he, "you should not waste your precious
time curling your hair; If Clod Intended
it to be curled, he would have curled It
for you."
"Indeed," said the witty maid, "I
must differ with you. When I was an
Infant, he.curled It for me, but now I
am grown up, he thinks I am able to do
It myself."
(T The other day a pretty girl at one

" How much ?" said the gentleman, a

" Four dollars I Good heavens, madam,
I might as well be robbed In the street.
However, may-be youH sell the half

" Why, certainly," said the lady, and
with a clip of the scissors cut the roses
In two and handed him the stems.
"Two dollars, if you please," she
said.
He paid without another word.
Sharper Than a Lawyer.
A wag of a lawyer was sitting in his
office the other day, deeply engaged In
unraveling some knotty question, when
a gentleman entered and inquired, " Is
this Mr. Z. ?" The student of Black
stone, raising his eyes from tbe legal
book before him, replied, " If you owe
me any thing or have any business in
my line, then Z. is my name. If you
have a claim to present I am not the
man. If you called simply for a social
chat you can call me any name."
" I propose to present you with some
business in your line. I have a note of
$25 1 want you to collect," and handing
the lawyer a note he departed to call the
next day. At soon us he was gone the
lawyer discovered that it was one of his
promise to pay.
The next day his client appeared and
inquired,' " Well, what success ?" .
"All right; I have collected the
money. Here it is, less my fees," hand
ing him fifteen dollars.
" Good," said the client. " I have
made $2.50 by the operation."
" How so ?" asked the lawyer.
