The new varieties of wheat wliloh In the luntfew yetus Imve been popular In our Hpplcultural dlstrlrtd, do not appear to meet with mueh favor Among the millers of the State. The following resolution was adopted at the Millers' Convention held In Lancaster last week " Jofved, That thU society will dls eourmre the growing of Fultz and Claw don wheat. For milling purpoeg they are not desirable, and have been the cause of mueh of the complaint about our flour. AVe suggest Lanoaster, Old Mediterranean, Houghton, Hhoemaker, Canada White, Deal and Viuk be grown in preference. The resolution met with but one op posing vote. Borax tor Colds. A welter In the "Medical Itecord" cites a number of cases In which borax is proved a most edectual remedy in certalu form of colds. He states that in sudden hoarseness, or loss of voice in public speakers or singers from colds, relief for an hour or so, as by magic, may often be obtained by slowly dis solving, partially swallowing, a lump of boras the size of a garden pea, or about three or four grains, held in the mouth for ten minutes before speaking or singing. This produces a profuse secretion of saliva, or "watering" of the mouth and throat probably restor ing the voloeor tone to the dried vocal cords, Just an wetting brings back the missing notesito a flute when it ls too dry. About Wearing Flannel. A writer who knows, writes as fol lows of the value of wearing woolen flannel: 'Tut it on at once. Winter or summer, nothing better can be worn next to the skin than a loose, red, woolen undershirt, "loose," for it has room to uiove on the-skin, thus causing a tiUllatlon which draws the blood to the surface and keqps It there, and, when that Is the case, no one can take a cold ; "red," for white flannel Alls up, mats together and becomes tight, stiif, heavy and impervious; "woolen," not of cotton wool, because that merely absorbs the moisture from the surface, while the woolen flannel conveys it from the skin and deposits it in drops on the outside of the shirt, from which the ordinary eotton shirt absorbs it, and, by its nearer.xposure to the exterior air, it is soon dried without injury to the body. Having these properties, red woolen flannel is worn by sailors even in mid summer in the hottest countries. Kerosene as a Hair Toulo. The subjoined recipe is an instanta neous and thorough remedy for an itching seal p. It is the best hair invig orator and shampoon in existence, and leaves the hair in the most beautiful condition, bringing out all it natural tints, and leave the scalp as white and pure as a baby's. I don't care how thick the dandruff, It will cJean it in a moment, and if there is a root of hair left it will start a new crop. Take two or three tablespoon fuls of kerosene and rub with a little piece of rag lightly into the scalp just enough to moisten the skin ; then wash the head in hot water, in which a little sal soda or ammonia water has been put; use no eoap; dry thoroughly and (if a lady) let the hair hang free till perfectly dry. Do this about once in two weeks and you will have no trouble of any kind with the outside of your head. I used it for an itching scalp, and was surprised to find a thick undergrowth of new hair after two or three applications. Mullein as a Cure for Consumption. A correspondent writes as follows about the flower of a well known plant: I hare discovered a remedy for con sumption. It has cured a number of cases after bleeding at the lungs had commenoed and the hectio flush was al ready on the cheek. After trying this remedy to my own satisfaction, I have thought that philanthropy required that I should let it be known to the world. It is common mullein steeped strongly and sweetened with coffee sugar, and drank freely. Young or old plants are good dried in the shade and kept in clean bags. The medicine must be continued from three to six months, according to the nature of the disease. It is very good for the blood vessels also. It strengthens aed builds up the system, instead of taking away the strength ; it makes good blood and takes inflamma tion away from the lungs. It is the wish of the writer that every periodical in the United States, Canada and Europe should publihh this recipe for the benefit of the human family. Lay this by and keep it in the bouse ready for use. Lrxinyton J'reit, Newport AdrertlNonientH. It. S.
