THE TIMES, NEW IVLOOM FIELD, l'A., NOVEMBER 19, 1878.
Slrango Mystery or Mrs. Noonan.
Four Ann Lincoln, Dnkota, Oct. 01.
A rotuniknblo and .singular bit of news
preud over tbo gnrrinon here on yonleulny.
Tliero linn Iipoii living nml nttacliod to one
of tlio coinpniiieii of tlio Bovonth Cavnlry,
an IniindrccR, h pemon who lins gone uudor
tlio imiue of Mis. Noonnn, who wns limr
ried, in 1.S7I), to a soldier of ono of the com
panies of tlio Seventh Cavalry, having buen
twice man ltd before, the flint time to a mftti
named NhhIi, and tlio second time to a
person who wn killed til the light with
CiiBtur, against Bitting Hull, two years
Bgo. 'Mrs. Noonnn" has, sines 1K73, dono
the laundry work of the company to which
sho was attached with the let.t of satisfac
tion, and wits as handy with a needle as
any woman in tlio garrison, making all
kinds of lint) shirts for dilVcrent ones. She
also professed and acted the part of mid
wife, and, on several occasions, has gone
as far as twenty-live miles from hero to
perform duties of that kind, and at all
times giving good satisfaction, llor house
was as clean as could be, and tho walls
were ornamented with some very beauti
ful pictures. In fact everything about the
house, both in and outside, was very taste
fully arranged. About two weeks ago sho
complained of being sick, and was attended
by the post surgeon, Dr. "Wolveston. Sho
grew worse, however, from tho llrst, and
on yesterday morning, tho iiOlh Inst., at 5
o'clock, died, liefore dying, however on
tho 2l)tli Inst., she intimated to one of tho
visitors present that she desired to sea tho
priest ; that she had something of a grave
tialuie to reveal before sho died. Itev.
Father Clirysostrom, of Ijismarck, was
sent for and came and heard her confession.
She lived uutill the next morning, when
he expired. The residence or quarters of
the laundresses of the regiment is a long
double building, containing , shout twenty
looms, each occupied by from ono to two
laundresses. Mrs. Noonan has always
been looked upon by the other laundresses
of the building as boing a "something"
between a man and a woman, and had
but few associates among them. To ono
wof tliom, she remarked, a few days before
.her death, that she desired at her death to
-be buiiud with the clothes she had on. At
'her death, however, her body was taken in
charge by some of the women of the garri
son to prepare her decently for interment,
her husband being out with his regiment
on the Black Hills. In doing so they discov
ered, to their surprise, that the woman
whom they had known as Mrs. Noonan
ws uot a woman, but a man.
Was it a Corpse?
A marked sensation was created on the
Philadelphia express Wednesday morning
owing to tho nauseous smells arising from
a trunk checked at Corry for Philadelphia.
When placed on the car it was supposod
the trunk contained ordinary baggage, but
as the tiain proceoded eastward the most
horriblo eflluvia permeated every portion
of tho car. The offensive smells compelled
the bsggago master to throw opeu the
doors of his car. For about 150 miles he
was obliged to inhale the sickening at
mosphere, when tho trunk was removed to
the platform aud in that way conveyed to
its destination. The train was searched
for some man who might know something
of the trunk, but uo oue could be found
who could furnish any light on the subject.
The only person who purchased a ticket
from Corry to Philadelphia disappeared at
VVilliamsport. Tho trunk no doubt con
tained a corpse, and an impression gained
ground on the traiu that it was a portion
of the remains of A. T. Stewart, recently
stolen iu New York.
Poisoned by a Corpse.
New Youk, November 11. Jas. O'Brien
bad been employed till ten days ago as a
cook at Bollevuo Hospital, when be was
transferred to the Morgue to take charge
of the dead bodies. While engaged in
sewing up a corpse in a sack one day last
week he pricked tho llrst finger of his right
band with a needle. Some of the poison
from tho body entered the wound, and
yesterday ho was brought to Dr. McCreery,
the surgeon on duty. lie found that poi
sou bad permeated his system through the
arm and the latter was much swollen. Dr.
"McCreery said last night that bis arm
would have to be amputated, aud the man
wpuld probably die. This is the first case
of the kind at Bollevuo Hospital.
Iron Works Resolved to Suspend.
Philadelphia, November 13. Tho Al
lentown iron company, having its office at
No. 230 South Third street, iu this city,
resolved to-day to temporarily suspend
business, uud named November 29 as the
day on which the stockholders are. to meet
to receive a statement of the Iluanciul con.
ditioo of tho company. The company has
four furnaces iu full blast, aud their scop
page will throw out of employment a large
number of bauds. Oue of the directors
states ' that the total liabilities will Dot
exceed half a million, while the value of
the works aud town lots in Alleutown
owned by tho company is set down at over
a million dollars.

IFMr, Edward Chandler, of Union

which are very flue, both in size and taste.
A Strange Confession.
Marshalllown, Iowa, November 0. A
curious case has arisen In the Criminal
Court which promises to produce some
lutero sting complication in law. A jury
last night found a man named Dnkln
guilty of the murder of John K. Slough
last March, the punishment being impris
onment In tho penitentiary for lifo. To
day Frank Ross, an Italian, who formerly
worked for Dakiu, after the trial made
aftldavit that he (Hoss) killed Blough. It
is uot yet decided what the course of the
State's attorney will be.
"A Drowning Man Will Catch at a Straw."
If he catch It, it will do hi in no good.
Thousands of people, after having neglect
ed oolds and ouoghs until they have be
coiuo dangerous, will rusii to almost every
nostrum for relief. ' This is why so many
experiments are tried by the Biiffarers. Go
to your Druggist, buy a bottle of Wistar's
Balsam of Wild Cherry, and use it with
coullduuco. It will boned t at once and
ultimately cure. It is uo straw, it is a
