J An old Irish soldier who prided
himself upon his bravery, said that he

When asked if he had retreated and
made good his escape as others did on
that famous occasion, he replied: "Be

"An honest ignoramus who had

A Disrju8ted Father.
The following correspondence recent

and a gentleman of the faculty of Yale
College. South Carolina. "Prof. :
Dear Sir My son informs me that he
is obliged to sit next a negro day after
day which Is highly disagreeable to him

provide some different arrangement?
Yours, eto." To which he received the
following reply. "Yale College, New
Haven. Esq.: Dt ur sir, Your favor
is at hand. It is true that the students
are arranged alphubetically for the
present term, and a colored student has
his place next your son. But, at the
commencement of the next term, the
arrangement will be In the order of
scholarship, in which case the colored
youth will be so near the head of the
class, and your sou, I regret to say, bo
near the other extremity, that there will
be no further embarrassment on that
score- Yours, etc ." The speedy
result was a note from a disgusted
father, calling home a disgusted son.
