8 THE TIMES, NEW BLOOMFIELD, PA,. OCTOBER- 22, 1878. tWTho little town of Tazewell, Claiborn county, Tenn., situated in the wild moun tains of Tennessee, near the Kentucky line And twelve miles from the Cumberland Gap, has for a mouth been considerably excited over the dramatio termination of a somewhat dingraoeful scandal. The nlleg iid facts in a nutshell are simply these. Mrs. Emma Itogors, the wire of Jesse C. Rogers, the Clnrk and Master of the Chancery Court of Claiborn county, was detected by her husbaud in dishonorable Intimacy with one Edward Jackson, a mulatto of that town. The husband attacked Jack -son and shot at him. The negro fled to the mountain fastueHscs and thence to Kentucky, where he was Intercepted, at rested, and, after a lime, unlawfully turned over to Rogers and a party of friends who bad pursued him. This party then started back to Teunesseo with their prisoner. En route, it is alleged, the poor creature was tortured in a manner eminently worthy of the most atrocious foats of tho Inquisition. When within a mile of the Tennessee line, at a point in AVbilU-y county, Kentucky, he was hanged to a sapling and his body and face riddled with bullets. The alleged perpetrators of this terrible deed, viz, Jesse C. Rogers, the husband ; James Caywood, the father of the false wife ; William H. Caywood, a brother of James, and John Rogers, a cousin and brother-in-law of Jesse's, are .-still at large, and from present indications are quite, likely to remain so. Oiddings, Texas, Oct, 14, 1378. The : notorious Bill Lougley, the murderer of thirty-two persons, was executed heie this .morning. He was convicted for shooting Wilson Anderson, a field hand, on the 31st of March, 1875. Of all the scoundrels that have from tinio to time appeared in Texas, this Longley was the worst. He hated labor ; murder was his delight. IIo was born in this State tweuty-eix years ago. At an early age he was an export with fire arms. When the negroes were disarmed, shortly after the war of Bocer iou, he practiced ou one of the colored militiamen, near Evergreen, bitting him iu the center of the head at 100 yards. IIo was not arrested for this crime, unit the fuilur o of justice made him a desperado, for he thought he could defy the law. Four months later be engaged it a quarrel with another negro, and with - niA ..r .......... ....m...... ..r i.:.. mo niu wi t ou vuuuii i Minima Ul ins UW11 )ass killed him. This lime the sheriff made a move, but Longley was too quick for him and lied the country, becoming a regular bandit. Do It at Cnce I If a title of tho testimonials now ou hand of the value of Dr Wistar's Balsam of Wild Cherry should be published, no ono would stop to read the bulky volume. Ask any druggist and he will tell you that this Balsam is a real blessing to nil affected with throat or lung diseases. All kindred affections, including Bronchitis, Sore Throat, Croup, Hoarseness, Pains iu the Chest, and Bleeding of the Lungs, yield to its wonderful power. We advise any one tired of experimenting with physicians' prescriptions or quack medicines to drop them at once and use the Balsam of Cherry. 50 cents and $1 a bottle, by all druggists. Wild Bold t27 Nathan F. Hart committed a mur der in St. George, Mo., aud then manu factured most of the evidence that has convicted him. lie killed a woman, and suspicion was not at first directed toward him ; but he bunglingly undertook to make himself secure by writing two letters, dated at Providence and Philadelphia, in which the crime was described ostensibly by the perpetrators. The writiug was recognized ns his, and ho was arrested. He also related protended dreams of the murder telling what ho could not have known if innocent. tW A San Francisco pawnbroker lent $10 ou a violin worth $100, and put the instrument carefully away in a closet. On tho following day a similar violin was pledg ed, and at tho close of the week five had been put into tho closet. Then the pawn broker found that al ter each bargain the valuable violin had been replaced by a comparatively worthless one, access to the closet being obuincd through a hole iu the wall, and that ho had taken in tho same article five times. tST A few days ago a hotse belonging to a colored man named Lewis began to act strange when in the vicinity of Penn stroet and Say ford avenue, west Harris burg, and the owner, plying the whip gently, was horrified to observe the horse falling in the shafts and after rolling a few times and uttering groans of pain, it turn ed over on its side and died within the space of fifteen minutes. Charles Langmeir, who haf come to be known as "Dickens' Dutchman," visit ed police headquarters at Philadelphia ou Saturday, having come from the west, and wanted to be sent back to his old cell in the Eastern Penitentiary. It was finally concluded by the proper officials to Bond him to the County Prison on a charge of breach of the peaoe. ne has spent thirty five years iu prison. 1878. FALL. 1878.
