American AyrieulturM. Pruning. It is now admitted by all who have given attention to the subject, and it is in accordance with both theory and practice, that to favor a free growth of the shoots and leaves, pruning should l performed while trees are dormant and leafless. On the other hand, to check growth, and to promote frultfulness, the pruning should be done on the tree in leaf and growing. We know of no cul tivators who dissent from these truths. It Is commonly admitted also that Rum mer pruning favors a more sjwedy heal ing of the wounds. - V-4n - When a cow's milk suddenly dries up and becomes clotted in the udder, it fs probably due to garget or Inflamma tion to the udder from some one of many causes. The udder Is then hard or lumpy, and hot. A remedy is to give the cow nt once 8 or 12 ounces Epsom Halts, with half an ounce of saltpetre, repeating tho latter in six hours. If the milk is dlflicult to draw, a solution of one ounce of carbonate of soda In a pint of water should be injected in the teats with a syringe, and then milked out. This will bring away the curdled milk which, if left in will make matters very much worse. I f the cow Is feverish, the saltpetre may be repeated for a day or two. To bathe tho udder in cold water, rubbing and squeezing It gently for u considerable time, is useful. - - Lemon Jelly Cake. One pint of Hour, the same of while sugar, live eggs beaten separately, one tablespoon fill of butter, one teaspoonful of cream of tarter, one-half a teaspoon ful of soda ; when well mixed, four tablcspoonful of cold water. Tor the jelly take two cups of sugar1 , yolks of three eggs, the juice and grated rind of three lemons ; ook till thickened by setting in boiling water, then add the beaten white of three eggs; spread be tween the layers of the cake and trim off the rough edges. - - Keystone Biscuit. Take three teaspoon fuls of Shepley'a Keystone Making Powder, and one quart sifted flour, mix lioth. while perfectly dry, then add one teaspoonful of salt, a lump of butter about as large as an egg, mix and rub until dry, add three gills of milk or water shape into a hot pan with a spoon (without working) and bake in a hot oven. This Powder, can bo had of F. Moutimhh, or other stores In the county. A General Favorite. The Sheplcy Keystone Baking Powder when used according to printed direc tions has beooine a great favorite for producing light, sweet, Nutritious bis cuit, Rolls, Muffins, Bread, Griddle cakes, etc. Tor sale by F. Mortimer, New Bloomfleld, Pa. 10.6t A Cheap Liniment. ' ' Take equal parts of hog's lard und coal oil, melt the lard and put the coal oil Into it while hot, and stir well before each using. Rub the part affected, with the preparation, rub well and heat by the fire until the skin is hot. More beneflt will be derived from this prepara tion than most costly liniment. EST The proper time to repair furming tools and implements of all kinds, is In the season when they are not required for use. The farmer should therefore see to it that his mowing machine, reap, era, hay rakes, scythe snaths, rakes, forks, hoes, ploughs, chains, wagons, and carts are throughly repaired and painted whenever necessary In the win ter time. tT The corn crop of Kansas last year at twenty-flve ceuts a bushel, would be worth $20,000,000.
