7S December 10, 1975 Ben Gainer betters community member of the board of directors and treasurer of - the Donegal Braves. For a number of years, he also was weekly football game announcer. Among Gainer’s many other activities is the Done- gal High School Basketball Booster Club. He was prime mover in organizing the club’s programs and was its president for two years. Together with his wife, the former Erma Sigman of Mount Nebo, Gainer has served as chairman or co-chairman for 10 years for the United Fund Campaign in the East Donegal Town- ship area. An avid coin collector, he is a member of the Florin-Mount Joy Coin Club and has been an officer and board member. His current project is to design the association’s Bicenten- nial coin. He also is trea- surer, elder and secretary of the Sunday school at the Maytown Church of God. They are Andrew Zuch, Dawn Drager, and Alan Day. Andrew, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Zuch, recieved the highest pos- sible award in the reading program. His picture will be hung in the Maytown Hall of Fame. Andrew, a second grader in Mrs. Evans’ class, has read S59 books so far this year, and has completed all his reading program activit- ies. Dawn Drager, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Drager, received the Read- er’'s Club Award for reading ten SO page books, fifteen 100 page books, and five 200 page books. She is a 6th grader in Mr. Rupp’s class. Alan Day, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Day, read 27 books to win the Avid Reader's Club Award. Alan is a 3rd grader in Mrs. Kegel's class. Mount Joy R.1 today (De- cember 4) was presented Pennsylvania Power & Light Company’s Community Bet- terment Award for his con- tinued involvement parti- cularly in community youth activities. He also was given a $100 check which was designated for the non-pro- fit organization of his choice, Brent S. Shunk, vice president-Lancaster Divi- sion, who made the present- ation said, ‘‘PP&L em- ployees such as Ben Gainer who earn this award are certainly deserving of re- cognition. For example, Ben has contributed more than eight years of his time Donegal Braves Midget Football organization.’’ Gainer’s efforts were also praised by Walter Gallagher president of the Mount Joy Athletic Association. Millar better Marietta Police Chief James Millar, who has been on sick leave for a couple of weeks, is getting better and will probably be back on the job by January 1. The chief had been suffering from high blood pressure, but he seems to have cured himself by giving up cigarettes.
