Walt Price was really surprised
Walt Price thought he
was going to an office party
for the sports staff of WPDC
radio last Wednesday night.
Walt, former Donegal High
wrestling coach, has been
broadcasting football games
for the radio station.
Walt picked up fellow
sportscaster, Kemp Zan-
gari, and the two of them
drove to the Mount Joy
Legion.
The door opened on a
room full of 250 Donegal
wrestling fans. Walt turned
to Zangari and said, ‘‘We're
in the wrong place.”
It took Walt a minute to
realize that he had arrived at
a surprise banquet in his
own honor.
Besides the present DHS
coaches, wrestlers and fans,
old proteges of Walt’s were
on hand to toast the man
who taught them their
wrestling fundamentals.
Paul Stehman, now head
wrestling coach at . Line
Mountain High School, said,
‘“My whole career in wrest-
ling could be attributed to
Walt, and there are a lot of
guys who feel the same.”

Coach Price, whose wrest-
ling team was undefeated
last year, resigned suddenly
this fall because of ‘‘perso-
nal reasons’’.
A letter Walt sent to
parents of wrestlers, ex-
plaining why he resigned,
was quoted extensively in
last Thursday's Intelligen-
cier Journal.

Gingrich demands updated police facilities;
Budget approved at Boro Council meeting
Mount Joy Borough
Council approved the 1976
budget which calls for a
reduction of 1 mil in real
estate tax.
The ordinance providing
for the reduction brought a
halt to the proceedings
when Mayor James
Gingrich refused to sign it
until he had a commitment
from President Foley on the
updating of the police facili-
ties. Foley charged the
public works committee to
put the police facilities
updating on their priority
list for the coming year, and
Gingrich signed. The
budget provides for a 7 to
10 % increase in wages for
borough employees, largely
for sanitation department
employees who are past due

for their increase.
Friendship Fire Company
asked council to consider
turning over the deed to the
present firehouse at 7-9 N.
Market St. The building is
not providing any income for
the borough ‘and the fire
company owning the proper-
ty would relieve the burden
of upkeep and insurance
from that body. The public
works committee will meet
with the fire company rep-
resentatives to discuss the
matter and report back to
council. Racer pigeons
owned by Robert Kline, 567
N. Angle St., were the cause
of a complaint by neighbors
who objected to their dropp-
ings on homes and cars.
Mr. Kline purchased the
land the coops now stand on
after checking with borough
manager, Joseph Bateman
and receiving a permit July
8. Council has now revoked
the permit and the pigeons
are to be moved from the
property by December 8.
Kline stated he would not
have purchased the land had
he thought he could not
keep the birds there.
In other business the
council approved an insur-
ance purchase of
$12,675.00; lifted the mora-
torium on street lighting;
started plans for mercury
type street lights; approved
vacation of portions of Rose
Alley, Plank Alley, and
Hamaker Alley; and agreed
to collect the Occupation
Tax.

Open House this Sunday, Dec. 14

The new East Donegal
Township Municipal Build-
ing will be shown at an Open
House, Sunday, December
14, from 1 to 4 p.m. The
public is invited to inspect
the facility at Rock Point
Road.
The office - workshop
building was constructed
because of the lack of space
in the former building. The
facility will house all author-
ity boards as well as the
police office. Each authority
will have its own office. In
the past all township busi-
ness was conducted in the
same office and lack of
space was of prime concern.
The new building was
constructed at a cost of
approximately $100,000.00.
The office space is 80 by 55
and the workshop area is
100 by 60. The plan began
three years ago when it
became very evident that
the old building was becom-
ing smaller and smaller as
the township business grew.
The actual construction be-
gan in late spring, 1975.
East Donegal Township
Supervisors are: James
Johnstin, president; Lloyd
Fuhrman, secretary-trea-
surer; and Abram Groff,
vice-president.
Landis re-elected board president
Dr. William B. Landis
was re-elected president of
the Donegal School Board
last Thursday night.
Donald Kugle and Thom-
as Meckley were installed as
board members; Meckley
for his first term.
Dale Arnold was re-elect-
ed to serve as vice-presi-
dent.
Kugle was chosen as
representative to the Lan-
caster County Vo-tech Joint
Committee, Arnold as alter-
nate.
Meckley was selected to
be representative to the
Lancaster County Wage Tax
Bureau, Jere Duke as alter-
nate.
Dr. Robert Eshlemen and
John Weidman will repre-
sent the board on the
legislative committee of the
State Board Association.
Other committee appoint-
ments will be made by Dr.
Landis, to be announced at
the January 1S meeting.
The board decided to
work on a long-range land
purchase and construction
plan to be prepared by
September, 1977.
The board’s solicitor was
asked to propose alternate
plans for disposing of
SICO-Chiques Park as soon
as possible.
