Kline, an 82 year old county farmer, died Wednesday afternoon at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. He leaves 137 survivors. Kline, of Bainbridge RI, had been a lifelong farmer and was the husband of Elsie Neiwender Kline. He was born in New Bridgeville, York County, a son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Smeltzer Kline. Surviving besides his widow are five daughters: Freida, wife of John Conrad, Columbia R1; Mary, wife of Harry Godfrey, Red Lion; Meriam, wife of Orville Kirk, Waterford Rl; Mrs. Mabel Hanlen, Marietta, and Edna, wife of James Newcomer, Mount Joy R1. Seven sons also survive. They are Luther Kline, Harry Kline, John Kline, and Roy Kline, all of Columbia R1; Mervin Kline, Mount Joy Rl; Charles Kline, Wrightsville R1; and Ralph Kline, Bainbridge R1. Also surviving are 48 grandchildren, 74 great- grandchildren, and two brothers, Isaac Kline and Andrew Kline, both of Red Lion R1. MRS. J. HARVEY RICE Mrs. Pearl G. Rice, 84, of 2875 Eastwood Drive, York, a former Marietta resident, died at her York home at 5:30 p.m., Wednes- day following a six-month illness. A retired employee of Tidy Products, Columbia, she had worked there about 10 years. She was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Landisville, Perry County. She was born in Perry County and was the widow of J. Harvey Rice. Surviving are three daughters, Gertrude, wife of George Glatfelter, with whom she resided in York, Doris, wife of Blaine Stokley Marietta R1, and Shirley, wife of Howard Smith, Valencia, Calif., 10 grand- children and 19 great grandchildren. MRS. L. G. GROFF Mrs. Dorothy Spidie. Groff, 6S, of 451 N. Prince St., died Tuesday at 8:40 p.m., at Duke Convalescent Residence, where she had been a patient since Friday. Her death followed an illness of several weeks. The widow of Lester G. Groff, who died in March 1972# she had lived in Lancaster County the past S0 years and was a former Mount Joy resident. She was born:n Cumber- land County, a daughter of the late Stephen and Kate Werner Spidle. Surviving are a son, Robert Groff, Marietta, and six daughters, Mrs. Ethel Weidman, Dorothy, wife of Donald McCue, and Mary Groff, all of Lancaster; Catherine, wife of John Ferguson, East Liverpool, Ohio; Alice, wife of Robert Fraser, Wellsville R1, Ohio, and Doris, wife of William T. Rickett, with whom she resided. Also surviving are S50 grandchildren, a great- grandchild and a sister, Alice, wife of Leroy Detwil- er, Carlisle. George McKain, Jr. George L. McKain, Jr. died Friday at 2 a.m. at his home in Bainbridge. He was 67 and had been under the care of a physician. How- ever, his death was unex- pected. Born in Marietta the son the late George I. and Rebecca Marley McKain, Sr., he married the former Mildred Knisley. Mr. McKain was a retired painter and paper hanger. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Otstott, Middletown; and Sandra, wife of Ronald Foultz, Mansville; six sons: Donald, Bainbridge; Rich- ard, Marietta; George, Mount Joy; Paris, Mount Joy; Barry, Mount Joy; and Dennis, Columbia. Mr. McKain is also survived by 19 grandchild- ren and five great-grand- children.
