Schools celebrate Veterans

Scene at Grandview Elementary School on Veteran's Day.
Veterans Day was cele-
brated with special assem-
blies at most area schools
on Nov. 11.
At Grandview elementary
School, a ceremony was held
outdoors, in the courtyard.
Sixth graders Pam
Greider and Debbie Freed
got things underway with a
flute duet.
The fourth graders of
room 22 presented a playlet

based on the Johnny Cash
“It's a Grand Old
song,

Flag.”
Actors were Wayne
Emenheiser, Jamie Jones,
Douglas Heisey and Thomas
Longenecker.
Leann Kelly, Jimmy
Darkey and Marcia Anspach
sang ‘“‘It’s a Grand Old
Flag.”
Flag wavers were Carol
Haldeman, Nan Williams,
Curtis Martin, Randy
Heisey, Karen Grubb, Barry
Hilsher , Ralph Martin, Kim
Hubbard, and Dwight
Yoder.

The Dramatics Club of
Donegal High School held a
Veterans Day assembly
Tuesday to honor local
veterans.
The assembly was high-
lighted by a presentation of
“The Trilogy of Freedom,”’
an original play by Jane
Youtz. Miss Youtz, a
senior, has penned dramas
for Veterans Day assemblies
for the past three years.
One of her works, ‘“‘The
Commitment,’’ received the
Freedom Foundation of Val-
ley Forge National Youth
Award in 1974.
This year she received a
plaque for her Americanism
from Harry Greenawalt of
the Mount Joy Legion Post.
Michael Kohler served as
moderator for the assembly.
Mrs. M. M. Peraro read
letters from General Mark
Clark and Senator Hugh
Scott and introduced mem-
bers of the armed services.
Among those introduced
were: Lt. Colonel Robert W.
Eno, Jr., Carl Markley,
Ralph Youtz, Tadious Kevis,
Richard Floyd, Robert Wil-
liams, Robert Gephart, John
Penyak, commander of Le-
gion Post 466, Marietta;
Harry Greenawalt - and
James Heilig of Mount Joy
Post 185; Harrison Mont-
gomery, a Marietta Veteran
of World War I; and John
Drace.

Parents attend Beahm Jr. High

Parents followed their children’s schedules on Parent’s night at Beahm Jr. High last
Thursday. The parents spent ten minutes listening to each teacher describe the classwork.
The experience was tiring but educational for parents and teachers. Parent Marie Splain
said, ‘‘I know a lot more now than I knew when I came in. There’s a lot the kids don’t tell you.

Children collect for UNICEF

Purcell did not appear at
DHS Memorial Day services
as we stated in an article last
week. He will appear at the
school on Nov. 25.
Recently the children
from the Grandview and
Seiler Elementary Schools in
Mount Joy collected money
for UNICEF, the United
Nations Children’s Fund.
The final total was $274.
This money will be used to
help children around the
world to have food, medi-
cine, schools, hospitals,
teachers, and doctors.
