Cubs hold Halloween party
The Cub Scouts of Pack
263 held their annual family
Halloween Party on Tues-
day, October 28 at Grand-
view School.
Prizes were awarded to
the following boys: Pretti-
est, Kevin Hershey; Cutest,
Steve Miller; Funniest, Joe
Edgell; Most Original, Ben
Hoffman and Ugliest, Jim
Odenwalt.
Twelve new boys were
taken into the pack before
the party. They are Randy
Heisey, Chris Peters, Kevin
Jones, Charles Fackler,
Mike McKain, John Frye,
George Keaton, Ben Hoff-
man, Rodney Wilson, Greg
Edgell, Jim Odenwalt and L.
Scott Hostetter.
Several boys completed
projects over the summer,
thereby earning various
badges and arrow points.
These were presented by
Cubmaster Charles A. Esh-
leman to Jeff Way, Jerry
Linard, Kevin Hershey,
Brian Tyson and Scott
Frantz.
Girl Scouts at Happy Valley
On October 10, 11, and
12, 1975, Girl Scout Junior
Troop #32, Penn Laurel
Council, Mount Joy went
camping at ‘‘Happy Valley’
in Gettysburg, Pa. Happy
Valley is an established Girl
Scout Camp for the Penn
Laurel Council.
The girls enjoyed a
“‘hobo’’ hike, working on
badges, singing in the
out-of-doors and making
cherry pies over an open fire
with pie irons.
The girls also worked on
Needleguild items in Octo-
ber for the Needleguild Tea.
Troup #32 held a bake and
food sale to help support the
troop’s activities.

badges and looking forward
to selling girl scout calen-
dars.

Michael Groff, and Steven
Waltz.
Several den mothers will
be attending Cub Leaders
Training Pow-Wow at Man-
heim Twp. Middle School.
They are: Ann Mark,
Shirley Good, Evelyn Duke,
Carolyn Waltz, Edna Wolf,
and Sara Demmy.

Millers tour northwest states

Mr. and Mrs. Phares
Miller, Elizabethtown, R.D.
and Mr. and Mrs. Martin K.
Miller, Mount Joy spent
sixteen days in the states of
the Northwest. The Miller
brothers are employed by
Wolgemuth Bros., Inc.,
Mount Joy. Leaving October
10, they travelled to Sno
Shoe and took Route 180
west to Chicago and Route
94 to Madison, Wisconsin
and to Rochester, Minneso-
ta.
They visited the Robert
Brubakers’ and their sons’
farms. These families have
moved to Minnesota from
Pennsylvania. The Millers
also saw the farming area
around Minnesota.
From there, the journey
led to North Dakota and into
rugged Montana. Here
small grain and some corn is
raised and much of the land
is used for grazing. Many
cattle, antelope, sheep, par-
tridges, mule deer, eagles,
magpies and jackrabbits
were seen. Thousands of
wild geese make their home
in Rochester Park and afford
an unusual sight.
The Montana Bible Insti-
tute, where Harold Longe-
necker (formerly from Lan-
caster County) is president,
was visited by the Millers.
They also observed a Hut-
terite Colony.
Businessmen-
The beautiful full moon
shone over Miles City and
before long the travelers
were on their way to the
home of the guide for the
mule deer hunt on a 3000
acre ranch. They were
welcomed by a hospitable
couple.
The Miller brothers were
scheduled for a two day hunt
October 21 and 22. They
were allowed two deer
apiece. Two buck and two
doe were shot. The wives
attended the meeting of the
Montana Cowbelles with
their hostess and heard
about the problems of
ranchers.
The skies became threat-
ening and the Millers were
advised to move their car
out the ten-mile dirt lane
near the main road. Thou-
sands of sandhill cranes flew
over, heading for a different
climate.
The hunters were ham-
pered a bit because of snow
falling the second day of
their outing, but Phares was
fortunate to shoot an 8 point
buck before the evening.
Needless to say, the bro-
thers were happy to have
these trophies to transport
eastward to Pennsylvania as
a taste treat for family and
friends.
And of course the Millers
have many photographs of
the beautiful scenery as
souveniers of their trip.
