Donegal Braves ‘C’ beats Conestoga Valley
On Sunday, the 14th, the
Donegal Braves Midget
Football teams entertained
the visiting Conestoga Val-
ley Buckskins on the DHS
field and for the most part
‘got skinned’.
The ‘““B’’ team opened
play by dropping a 20—0
tilt, as the visitors scored in
each quarter, No less than 8
fumbles stymied the Braves
as the offense of Darin Kolp,
Duane Musser, Todd Butz
and Ron Kennedy were
unable to get untracked.
The defense led by Tom
Burger, George Armold,
Rodney Fellenbaum, Jim
Perry and Bill Dishart had
their hands full as they
struggled to stop the Buck-
skins.
The ‘““A’’ team followed
suit by suffering a 34—14
defeat which snapped a
2-game winning streak. A
blocked punt, two lost
by Jere R. Duke
fumbles and Donegal quick-
ly found themselves on the
short end of a 20—0 count
and only midway through
the second period. Finally in
the third quarter, the
offense led by Steve Butz,
Steve Neal, Steve Meszaros,
Frank Brommer and Leo-
nard Mummau got back on
the beam as Butz scored
twice to pull the Braves to
within 20—14. However, the
visitors came right back and
added two more of their own
and the Braves suffered
their first league defeat. The
defense led by Jeff Kauff-
man, John Longenecker,
Phil Landis, Phil Spickler,
Cory Heisey and Jeff Duke
were unable to contain the
Buckskins as they contin-
ually found themselves with
their backs to their own end
zone.
The: 'C”’ team came
roaring out though, and
pounded out a convincing
19—0 victory as Brian
Carbaugh scored on runs of
7 and 90 yards and Daryl
Risberg added a 10 yard
plunge. The offense led by
Carbaugh, Risberg, Tom
Luckabaugh and Bill Miller
dominated play so well that
the visitors did not run a
single play in the first
quarter. The defense, too,
completely out-played the
Buckskins as they recorded
the shut-out. Scott Hostet-
ter, Shawn Maxwell, Gene
Wagner, Kevin Fantom,
George Rice, Gilbert Corn-
well and John Yohe threw
up that stone wall and
refused to let the Buckskins
get near the goal line.
Next Sunday, the 21st,
the Braves will host the
Manheim Township Blue
Streaks on the DHS field
starting at 1:00 p.m.
‘D’ team loses to Hempfield, 0—13, Saturday
Saturday morning Sep-
tember 13 the ‘‘D’’ Team
traveled to Hempfield where
they were defeated 13—0, in
a hard fought defensive
battle.
The first quarter saw the
defensive line led by Tony
Yohe, Mike Lippold, Tony
Oxford, Joe Edgell, Brian
Thome, Joe Brady and Jim
Wolfiel help hold a strong
Hempfield running game
with good pursuit from Greg
Miller, Joel Carbaugh, Mike
Shelly and Mike Yohe in the
defensive backfield.

In the second quarter
Hempfield found a weak-
ness around the outside,
and had several long gains
saved from becoming
touchdowns by good tackles
by Miller, Edgell, Thome,
Oxford and Lippold. Finally
the Braves yielded a touch-
down and the half ended
7—0.
The third quarter saw the
same type of action with
Hempfield in possession of
the ball most of the time.
Late in the quarter as the
defense had pushed Hemp-
field deep into their own
territory, they surprised the
Braves with a punt on fourth
down, the ball was fumbled
and Hempfield recovered.
The offense with Crider,
Benard, Hiltz, Oxford, Lip-
pold, Edgell on the line and
Shelly, Carbaugh, Miller,
Albright, Yohe and MCcNiff
in the backfield could not
move the ball the few times
they had possession against
a strong Hempfield rush.
Late in the game Hemp-
field made 6 points bringing
their total to 13. The offense
has had trouble getting
started, but the ‘‘Little
Braves’’ promise better
things in future games.

Hunters are permitted to
apply to only one of the two
areas this year. If a person
applies to both areas, that

person will not be eligible to
hunt on either area.

16131, or to the Pennsyl-

The applicant’s 1975-76
hunting license number,
including the letter, must be
listed on the application.
Applications must be post-
marked no later than Sep-
tember 20; if the postmark is
later than September 20 the
application will be rejected.

Hockey team loses opener to E-town, 0-3
The Donegal hockey team
suffered a 3—0 defeat in
their league opener at
E-town last Wednesday.
The Bears scored in the
first few minutes, and kept
the young Donegal team on
the defensive for the rest of
the game.
‘“We backed off, and they
kept beating us to the ball,”
Indian Coach Zangan said.
With the E-town offensive
line controling the ball all
afternoon, Donegal’s fine
defensive unit had plenty of
opportunities to show their
stuff.

entirely of Juniors, Coach
Zangari is looking forward
to good season.
““There’s a lot of life left
in the team,’’ she said.
Next Wednesday the In-
dians will take on Manheim
Central at DHS.
