1975 MS Hope Chest Cam-
paign Chairman, invites
Lancaster County residents
to join the county-wide MS
‘Ride for Independence’ to
be held Sunday afternoon,
Sept. 21 at 1:30.
All area bicycle riders are
invited to meet in high
school parking lots at
Donegal High School,
Columbia High School, or
Elizabethtown Area Jr-Sr
High School
Routes will cover an ap-
proximate 2% mile radius
with riders repeating as
often as they wish. Each
rider is asked to obtain
pledges from sponsors with
the suggested rate of ten
cents per mile.
All proceeds will go to the
benefit of local multiple
sclerosis patients and to the
internationally coordinated
research program to find the
cause and cure of MS.
Routes will be controlled
for safety with State Police
patrolling the approved bike
routes and volunteer Fire
Companies and Ambulance
Associations providing extra
personnel. React volunteers
will be at all Rally Points
handling communications.
Prizes will be awarded to
bicycle riders of any age
turning in the highest
amount of pledges. Top
prize is a $25 U.S. Savings
Bond, 16 bike radios will be
awarded to 2nd place
winners - one in each Rally
Point area, 32 safety flags as
3rd prizes, and 48 bike
water bottles as 4th prizes.
Schwinn Odometers will go
to every rider turning in
pledges of $15 and over. A
special ‘Ride for Indepen-
dence’ decal will be presen-
ted to every rider turning in
pledges in any amount.

high schools, some food
stores, bike shops, or from
the Lancaster Chapter MS
office, 6 N. Prince St.,
Lancaster, or will be mailed
on request - call 387-1481 or
299-4577.
Forms will also be avail-
able the day of the ride.

Ralph Youtz,
observes 35th
year at PP & L
Ralph Youtz of Marietta,
construction foreman-ma-
terials with Pennsylvania
Power & Light Company,
will mark his 35th service
year with the utility Sep-
tember 16.
He joined PP&L in 1940
as a laborer at Sunbury.
Over the years he advanced
through a number of jobs
including stockman, con-
struction warehouse super-
visor and material sub-fore-
man. He has held his
present status with PP&L
since 1966.
Youtz is a native of
Sunbury and a graduate of
Sunbury High School. He is
a member of the Masonic
Order Lodge 632 Sunbury,
Harrisbury Consistory and
Zembo Temple. He is a
board member of the First
Methodist Church in Mari-
etta and in Sunbury is a life
member of the Friendship
Hose Co., past commander
of VFW Post 1532 and a
member of Elks Lodge 267.
Mrs. Youtz is the former
Thelma Love of Brecken-
ridge, Texas. They live at
464 Wasp St. with their
daughter, Jane, a pupil at
Donegal High School.
Library show
of local art
The Mount Joy Library
Board is interested in
continuing to display local
artists. Each display will be
show for one month. If

Ox to be roasted, Sat.
by Lions in Landisville
A deep-pit ox roast—for
years the only one in
Lancaster County—will be
sponsored again by the
Landisville Lions Club. It
will be held at the pavilion of
the Salunga Fire Company,
Saturday, September 20,
from 1 to 7 p.m.
Previous Lions Club ox
roasts have helped finance
community projects such as
the repair and maintenance
of the memorial clocks in
Landisville and Salunga, aid
to the blind and hard-of-
hearing, and supplying
wheel-chairs and hospital
beds to those needing them.
A full dinner including
ox-roast beef sandwiches,
roasting ears and baked
potatoes will be available
either as take-outs or for
dining at tables in the
pavilion. It is situated along
Route 230 in Salunga, with
ample free parking.
(Tickets are priced at
$3.50 and are available from
Lions Club members or at
the gate.)

Marietta Jaycees sponsor Ramona Sell
The first Regular Mem-
bership Meeting in the
newly renovated meeting
room of the Jaycee’s School
Project was held September
3, with President Bill Sload
conducting the meeting.
Jordan Gmach, Family
Picnic Chairman, reported
that the event held at the
War Memorial Park was
well attended and enjoyed
by everyone.
The Marietta Jaycees are
sponsoring Miss Kamona
Sell in the Miss Lancaster
County Scholarship Pageant
The parade will be Septem-
‘ber 24 and the pageant
Saturday, September 27.
The chapter has reserved
seats for the pageant to be
held at the Ephrata Senior
High School. John Spickler
is the project chairman.
The Scream-in-the-Dark
Committee has set October
20 to 24 as the dates for this

Harrison Montgomery,
430 W. Market Street,
Marietta, will be 88 years of
age on September 19.
A Marietta native, ‘‘Had”’
was born in 1887, son of the
late William and Mary
Montgomery. He is the lone
survivor of a family of 12
