Hard fought matches in MJ junior tourney ;

The first Annual Mount
Joy Junior Tennis Tourna-
ment was held this past
weekend. Lynn Miller of
Manheim captured the girls
singles title by defeating
Ma:cty, 6-2 and 6-0,
Her experience and fine
strokes proved to be too
much for the younger girl.
Marty made it to the finals
by playing a nice semi-final
match against Christine
Spickler, by scores of 6—0,
6—2. Lynn posted a very
close 6—2, 7—S semi-final
victory over Cheryl Hinkle of
Columbia.
The 12 and under boys
singles went to Brian
Newcomer. He defeated
Fred Straub 6—1, 6—1.
Brian's steadiness showed
to be to much for Fred to
handle.
The outstanding match of
the day was the 14 and
under singles match. Randy
Musser outlasted Gary Eb-
ersole in a tight dual to the
finish. Randy seemed to
have the match fairly under
control after splitting sets,
5—7, 6—4 and up 5—0 in
the third set. However, Gary
fought back and tied it at
S—all. Randy regained his
momentum and came back
to take the set 7—S and win
the match. Randy also faced
stiff competition in the
semi-finals when he had to
go 3 sets, 6—4, 3—6, 6—4,
to defeat Gary’s brother,
Brian Ebersole. Gary Eber-
sole made it to the finals by
defeating Asher Neiss 6—1,
4—6, 6—4 in a very close
semi-final match.
All participants received
wristbands and the winners
also received headbands
and trophies. The prizes and
trophies were donated by
