Mount Joy outswims Lititz team, 226-199

On Tuesday, July 29, the
Mount Joy Swim Team
swam their last league meet
of the season against Lititz
Springs at Lititz. Mount Joy
won 226-199 in an exciting
contest.
Again, the team had quite
a few team records broken
which are listed as follows:
Hope Madara broke the
backstroke record, swim-
ming 25m in 24.4 seconds in
the 8 years and under
division.
Stacy Gingrich broke the
breaststroke record, swim-
ming 25m in 26.8 seconds in
the same division.
George Rice broke both
the freestyle and butterfly
records in the 8 years and
under division, swimming
25m in 19.5 seconds (free-
style) and 29.5 seconds
(butterfly).
Two relay teams broke
relay records in the 8 and
under division. Hope Mada-
ra, Stacey Gingrich, Diana
Arndt, and Amy Hess did a
100m relay in one minute,
25.2 seconds.
Matthew Keller, Ben
Kling, George Rice, and
Kevin Jones broke the relay
record, swimming 100m in
one minute, 39.3 seconds.
In the ten and under
division Mike Jones broke
the breaststroke record,
swimming 25m in 24.0
seconds, Mindy Newlin and
Emmy Zuch, Amy Wester-
man, and Dory Rice broke
the relay record, swimming
100m in one minute, 16
seconds.
In the 12 years and under
division two relay teams
broke records. These were
Betsy Germer, Mindy Lam-
bert, Mary Kline, and Sherri
Kinsey, swimming a 200m
relay in two minutes, 25.8
seconds and Fred Straub,
Ricky Ober, Mitch Mum-
mau, and Brian Newcomer,
swimming 200m in two
minutes, 20.7 seconds.
In the 12 and under
division Sherri Kinsey broke
the SOm freestyle record,
swimming it in 31.8 sec-
onds.
In the 14 and under
division Kelly Rice broke
both the freestyle and
breaststroke records, swim-
ming S0m in each in 35.6
seconds(freestyle) and 45.9
seconds (breaststroke).
Dean Buchenauer broke
the backstroke record in the
17 and under division,
swimming the backstroke S0
meters in 34.0 seconds.
Triple, double and single
winners sure were coming
through that evening.
Triple winners were: Amy
Hess (freestyle, butterfly,
and relay), Brian Newcomer
(freestyle, back, and relay),
Sherri Kinsey (freestyle,
breast, and relay), Jim
Johnson (freestyle, back and
relay), and Dean Buche-
nauer (back, breast and
butterfly).
Double winners were:
George Rice (freestyle and
relay), John Hayman (free-
style and relay), Hope
Madara (back and relay),
Stacey Gingrich (breast and
relay), Ricky Kinsey (breast
and relay), and Mitch Drace
(butterfly and relay).
Single winners were:

Doll & stuffed animal
show held in Maytown

During the fifth week of
playground a stuffed animal
and a doll show were the
features at Maytown. Prizes
were awarded to the follow-
ing person who exhibited
their stuffed animals: first
prize—Darlene Weidman,
second prize—Jennifer Eby,
and third—Lynn Lesnefsky.
Most stuffed animals shown
were by: first, Billy Weaver;
second, Greg Embly; third,
Lynn Hart; fourth Brian
Hart; fifth, Susie Embly;
and sixth, Janelle Lesnef-
sky. The most colorful
animals were: first prize—
Jennifer Wilson, second
prize—Patty Mann, and
third prize—Bobby White.
The smallest toys were: first
prize—Terry Smoker, se-
cond prize—Lynn Lesnef-
‘sky, third—Susie Embly.
Most original prizes went to:
first—Jeff Hooper,
second—Brian Hart, and
third—Bobby White.
All children entering the
doll show received a prize.
These persons were the
winners of various cate-
gories: largest—Lisa Wea-
ver, Dan Reich and Jill
Kerschner; oldest— first,
Patty Mann; second, Jill
Kerschner; third, Lynn
Hart; fanciest— first, barbie
Mann; second, Michele
Smith; third, Darlene Wil-
son; most original— first,
Jennifer Eby; second, Susie
Smoker; and third,” Terri
Smoker; most dolls— first,
Lisa Weaver; second, Jill
Kerschner; and third, Lynn
Hart.
Softball, Kickball and four
squares were the games
enjoyed by the children
throughout the week.

The team practiced for the
City—County Swim Meet
held August 1 and 2.
To highlight the week the
team held their annual
picnic and presented their
awards at the Lions Pool on
Thursday evening. The
team and Parents enjoyed a
covered dish picnic, presen-
ted awards, and played
games. Parents held a
meeting with President Nolt
in charge.
The awards given were as
follows:
Outstanding Swimmers
were presented a trophy by
the Mount Joy Lions Club.
Those winning were, in the
eight and under class, Hope
Madara and George Rice; in
the ten and under class,
Dory Rice and Mike Jones;
in the twelve and under
class, Michelle Kling and
Brian Newcomer; in the
fourteen and under class,
Kelly Rice and Jim Johnson;
in the 17 and under class,
Gail Madara and Ted
Hershey.
The Most Improved
Swimmer award (with a
trophy presented by the
Mount Joy Swim Team
Parents Club)was presented
to Stacey Gingrich and
Benjamin Kling in the eight
and under class, Emmy
Zuch and Mark Robeson in
the ten and under class,
Mary Kline and Ricky Ober
in the twelve and under
class, Amy Kulp and Cliff
Miller in the fourteen and
under class, and Maureen
Jones and Chris Rice in the
17 and under class.
An award presented by
the coach was given to
Diana Arndt and Robert
Kling.
Also, a special plaque was
awarded to the graduating
swimmers who have partici-
pated on the swim team.
Dean Buchenauer, Maureen
Jones, Newt Kendig, Micki
Kulp and Andrea McCue
received this plaque.
Pizza salesmen were a-
warded gift certificates.
Betsy Germer won first
place selling 38 pizzas.
Steve Miller won second
place, selling 33 pizzas, and
Jodi Nolt won third prize,
selling 32 pizzas.
