Leisure Club stuffs envelopes

The Mount Joy Leisure
Club met on Monday, April
14 in the Florin Fire Hall.
Activities began about 9
a.m. when a number of
members began stuffing en-
velopes for the Mount Joy
Community Council. At
noon President Joe Shaeffer
called the meeting to order
and after an invocation by
Arthur Braun, cake and
coffee was served.
At 12:30 the president
called the meeting to order
for the business session.
After the pledge of alle-
giance to the flag, Secretary
Nedra Brandt read the min-
utes of the last meeting
and Treasurer Kathryn Zink
read her report. George
Groff reporting for the Com-
munity Council stated there
is a lot of activity preparing
for the Memorial Day par-
ade. Lena Eshleman of the
Sunshine Committee report-
ed 15 cards sent to shut-ins.
Gertrude Scheffler will be in
charge of the Sunshine Com-
mittee and mail the cards
for the next three months.
Bertha Foreman of the
Entertainment Committee
stated bingo would be play-
ed at the next meeting. The
usual birthday and anniver-
sary songs were sung. Two
new members were intro-
duced, Ralph Leed and
William Barto. Guests at-
tending were Verna Brandt,
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fetter
and Earl Simons. The bus

As part of ‘the Commun-
ity Participation Phase of
the recently ‘commenced
Lancaster Transit Develop-
ment Program, an attitude
survey will be conducted
throughout Lancaster City
and County. The survey
will take place April 28 -
May 9.
A selected number of
residents will be surveyed
by telephone to obtain in-
formation regarding travel
patterns of the area popu-
lation, opinions regarding
the quality of the present
level of transit service, de-
sired transit improvements,
and the elements of travel
time and cost and other rele-
vant information.
The telephone interview
will last approximately 8 -
10 minutes. The questions
to be asked deal with atti-
tudes and opinions regard-
ing mass transit in the area.
The Lancaster Transit
Authority, the organization
which will directly benefit
from the survey, urges that
all persons contacted for an
interview participate.

Those signing for the trip
were asked to pay for the
trip at the May meeting
which will be Monday, May
12. Chances were sold for
a drawing, the prize an or-
gan. Mrs. Cora Rutt, R. D.
2, Mount Joy was the lucky
winner.
At 1:00 p.m. the presi-
dent temporarily adjourned
the meeting and the pro-
gram presented by the Lan-
caster Chapter of the Ameri-
can Heart Association was
presented. Dr. David Sch-
losser spoke to the members
on hypertension and high
blood pressure. Dr. Sch-
losser stated that although
a person may not be aware
that they have high blood
pressure, they may have a
heart attack or stroke be-
cause of the high blood
pressure. Dr. Schlosser went
on to explain the impor-
tance of having blood press-
ure checked. Following his
remarks two nurses, Mrs.
Beverly Becker and Mrs.
Robert Sherk, proceeded to
take the blood pressure of
the Leisure Club members.
A total of 109 members
were present. After the
program, a few small items
of business remained after
which the meeting adjourn-
ed.
