Lakers edge Knicks 27-26
With just seven seconds
left in the game, Dwayne
Truett dribbled the length
of the court, drove in for a
lay-up and scored the final
basket, giving the Lakers a
thrilling 27-26 champion-
ship victory over the Knicks!
It was an exhilarating cli-
max to a long grade school
basketball season.
The Donegal Elementary
Basketball Program: started
the first Saturday in Decem-
ber, and the boys spent
eight weeks trying to mas-
ter the fundamentals. Fol-
lowing the sessions on fun-
damentals, the boys were
divided into six teams, each
team playing a ten-game
schedule. The play-offs were
then held on March 22, with
these final results:

TRACK
For some, the spring
sports season is about to
begin, but for the track
teams, the season started
four weeks ago with the
first practice.
The usually wet spring
weather has been very favor-
able. The spongy, resilient
quality and the superb bank-
ing of the curves make the
track a real joy on which to
run.
On any school day or
even on the weekends, you
may find as many as 150
students running, jumping,
or throwing the shotput,
discus, and javelin on or
around the magnificent
green track.
It may be noted by fans
that track and field is a spec-
tator sport which holds all
the thrills of a baseball or
football game. Because of
the new facilities, there will
be home meets and fans are
invited and encouraged to
to attend them (1st home
meet for boys’ track - April
3rd with Norlebco and for
the girls - April 9th with
Lancaster Catholic).
WINTER SPORTS
BANQUET
Last week the winter
sports banquet was held for
high school athletes. This
was the second such ban-
quet held this year (there
was one for fall athletes).
Winter athletes were ex-
cused from classes to attend
the banquet and to watch a
movie provided by the Done-
gal Coaches Association.
For the banquet, half of
the cafeteria was reserved
and decorated, complete
with flowers as centerpieces.
The students were given as
much as they could eat of
the specially prepared menu
consisting of fruit cocktail,
rolls and butter, carrot and
celery sticks, chicken, corn,
mashed potatoes, and milk.
By far the item in greatest
demand was the free ice
cream for dessert.
The basketball players,
the wrestlers, the cheerlead-
ers, Indianettes, and statisti-
cians received their varsity
and junior varsity letters and
certificates immediately fol-
lowing the luncheon.
The athletes proceeded
to the auditorium and watch-
ed the movie, “Ski Party,”
starring Frankie Avalon.
This banquet followed
by a movie has proven to be
a more adequate method by
which to honor athletes
than to have roller skating
and swimming parties. It
also brings the honor they
so richly deserve to the dedi-
cated athletes of Donegal.
This honor brings to an end
the best sports season ever
experienced by Donegal.
BASKETBALL CAMP
Donegal High School will
sponsor a basketball camp
this summer from June 16 -
June 20. This camp, organi-
zed by Mr. Emil Swift, will
include John Clark, Spencer
Henry, Grant “Tick” Hurst
(a PIAA official), Lou Sor-
rentino (Head Coach Leban-
on Valley College).
Also Don Smith (Head
Coach E-town College), Ed
Mcllmoyle (Head Coach Co-
calico H.S.), Pat Duffy (Head
Coach Lancaster Catholic
H.S.), Mr. Emil Swift (Head
Coach Donegal and camp
director), and a special my-
sterious All American bas-
ketball player.
Basketball players from
all over the state are being
invited to benefit from this
greatest of camps and clinics.
