YOUR BEST FRIENDS

When your children all get married
And leave mom and dad alone,
It makes you feel so lonely
When that happens in your home
All those happy years together
And the good time we all had,
They will never be forgotten
By your mom and good old dad.
When we go upstairs €ach evening
And mom switches on the light,
All those little beds are empty
Not a curly head in sight.
And all those playthings
That mom picked up. off the floor,
It would fill our hearts with gladness
Just to see them there once more.
That’s why we get so lonesome
When we sit at night alone,
Just a worrying and a fretting
Why the children don’t come home.
If you live close to your parents
Go and see them day by day,
For they want to be with you always
When that gold has turned to gray.
Take those hands when they grow feeble
Guard them close the whole way through,
You can never pay for half the things
Your folks have done for you.
Soon your old home will be vacant.
But the memory of it never ends,
When God claims your dad and mother
He has taken your best friends.
CHESS ANYONE?
The 7th Annual Gettys-
burg College Open Chess
Tournament will be held
Saturday, April 12, in Glat-
felter Hall, room 101, with
registration in the faculty
lounge from 8 - 8:45 a.m.
Class A will be a United
States Chess Federation
sanctioned tournament, di-
rected by Robert Trone
LTD. USCF membership
is required and may be pur-
chased at registration. Also
there is a fee of $2 (if sent
before March 31) or $3
thereafter. The match will
be a four-round Swiss Sys-
tem 40/60. Trophies will
be given to the champion,
to second place, and to the
best player under 14 years
of age.

Class B is free, not sanc-
tioned by the USCF, and
does not require member-
ship in the USCF. It, too,
will be a four-round Swiss
match 40/60. The winner
will receive a trophy.

Plans for the annual 75
Plus Banquet, sponsored by
the Mount Joy Jaycees and
Joycee-ettes, are underway.
This year the banquet will
be held on June 12, at 5:30
p.m., at Hostetter’s Dining
Hall.

DHS STAGE BAND
IN COMPETITION
Last Saturday night the
Donegal High School stage
band traveled to Warwick for
a high school band compe-
tition.
Led by student director
Steve Hassinger, they played
three numbers: “Hot Pants,”
“Super Star,” and Hassing-
er’s arrangement of ‘““Mac-
Arthur Park.”
Winner was North Penn,
with Muhlenberg, 2nd place,
and Manheim Township,
3rd.
Donegal High School
took 4th and Manheim Cen-
tral, 5th,
Faculty director Glenn
Weaver is pleased with the
band and promises Susque-
hanna Country more stage
band music at the concert
band’s spring concert on
Saturday, May 3rd.
