THE WORRELL JONES HONORED
Mr. and Mrs. Worrell M.
Jones, who will be moving
to Clearfield, Pa., were hon-
ored in the Worship Service
on Sunday, February 23rd
at Chiques United Methodist
Church. Dr. Mark J. Hos-
tetter, District Superintend-
ent, preached the sermon.
Special guest soloist was
Mrs. Mary: Smith, Chair-
person of the Conference
Commission on Evangelism.
Following the Service, a din-
ner was held in Fellowship
Hall. In addition to mem-
bers of the church being pre-
sent for the dinner, special
guests included Mrs. Mary
Smith; Mr. Leon Hill, Asso-
ciate Conference Lay Lead-
er; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Greider. He will become
the new cnauperson of the
Koinonia Ministry; Mr. and
Mrs. Harley W. Bernard. He
is Vice President of the Lan-
caster District Lay Witness
Mission; special guests in-
cluded Dr. and Mrs. Mark
J. Hostetter.
Dr. Hostetter presented
Mr. and Mrs. Jones an elec-
tric chime clock. Mrs. Jones
was given a special charm,
presented by Mrs. Jay M.
Mueller, Sr.,from the United
Methodist Women; also a
birthday cake was given to
Mrs. Jones.
Guests, members of the
Church, and Rev. Woodrow
W. Kern, Minister, made
appropriate comments.
Both Mrs. Jones and Worrell
responded with apprecia-
tion.
ST. JOHN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH ACTIVITIES
Canon Kirmit Floyd, Dea-
conness Catherine Welton
and Julia Reissner, an inter-
ested church woman from
St. Stephens Cathedral,
Harrisburg, were guests at a
party on February 15 at St.
John’s Episcopal Church,
Marietta. Purpose of the
party was to honor persons
who helped so faithfully to
restore the rectory. A total
of 92 attended the covered
dish dinner.
Miss Laura McMillen and
her puppet friend, Randy,
entertained those attending
with a comedy skit. Four
young ladies from Elizabeth-
town College presented a
repertoire of Gospel Hymns.
They were Misses Leighton
Smith, Gail Johnston, Tina
Miccell and Jan Gamby.
Several members visited
Homer Frye, 83 W. Market
St., a shut-in, and presented
him with a birthday cake.
Mid-Week Lenten services
will be held each Wednes-
day during Lent at 7:30
p.m. Worship Service and
Church School are held each
Sunday at 10 a.m. followed
by a coffee hour. The pub-
lic is welcome to St. John’s
- services.

NOTICE
Notice is hereby given, pur-
suant to “The Local Tax
Enabling Act,” that the Bor-
ough of Marietta, Lancas-
ter County, Pennsylvania,
intends to enact an ordin-
ance imposing a tax at the
rate of one (1%) percent on
salaries, wages, commissions,
bonuses, incentive pay-
ments, net profits and other
forms of compensation re-
ceived or earned on or after
July 1, 1975, by individual
residents of the Borough of
Marietta. In the judgment
of Borough Council, the im-
position of this tax is made
necessary by the need for
additional tax revenues for
general Borough purposes.
It is estimated that the re-
venue to be derived from
said proposed tax will be
$36,000. The said ordin-
ance will be acted upon at a
meeting of the Borough
Council of the Borough of
Marietta to be held on Mar-
ch 11, 1975 at 7:30 p.m.
