Spartans win The Donegal Indians, fighting for a Lancaster - Lebanon Section Three bas- ketball title, were knocked out of the competition Fri- day night by their rivals from Garden Spot, as the Indians suffered a 76-58 defeat on their own court. No one had expected the Spartans, who beat Donegal by only one point earlier in the season at New Holland, to come on so strong. But the Garden Spot team played with the precision of ‘a cavalry unit. For the Indians, it was the battle of Wounded Knee. The game’s high scorer, Spartan Stan Stoltzfus, said, “We had to play well. Done- gal’s a good team.” The Spartan’s vigorous EMERGENCY MEDICAL CALLS SATURDAY AFTERNOON and SUNDAY Norlanco Health Center (Mount Joy Area Only) Page 8 — SUSQUEHANNA BULLETIN ‘crucial game defense held the Indian’s John Fellenbaum, who had caused them trouble in the first game, to 11 points. At times, the shorter Spar- tans literally draped them- selves on 6’4” Bob Barto, who sank 8 of the 13 foul throws this defensive tactic generated. A Spartan strategy was to control the area under Donegal’s basket, letting the Indians make long shots, but capturing the rebounds. So, a tie for the champ- ionship was lost in the final game of this year’s season. But Weber, Miller, Galla- gher, McKercher, Milligan, Barto, and Fellenbaum are all juniors and will be back next year. It looks like a great year for basketball at Donegal will be coming up.
