BPW meets leaders

“Guess Who’s Coming To
Dinner” was the subject of
the Mount Joy Business and
Professional Women’s Club
January meeting. Arranged
by the Civic Participation
Committee, the guests in-
cluded presidents of all the
Mount Joy service clubs and
the Mayor, James Gingrich.
The Mayor outlined the
need for boro ordinances and
brought greetings to the host
club.
Al Newlin, president of
the Mount Joy Rotary Club
stated the objective and pro-
jects it offers to the youth
of the community.

“Gibson Girls.” Mrs. Dennis
Miss Phyllis Leatherman,
president of the Mount Joy
Community Council, related
the major projects of this
group such as the Music in
the Park programs and the
Memorial Day parade and
celebration.
Mrs. Vera Cox, a teacher
in the local schools, was the

man of the civic participa-
tion committee with these
members: Mrs. Ben Horst,
who spoke for the BPW club
stating its goals and pro-
jects, Miss Elsie Lefever,
Mrs. Johnson Martin, Miss
Alica Marie Nissley, Mrs.
Lester Roberts.
Mrs. John Fry, 1st vice
president, conducted the
business session in the ab-
sence of the president, Mrs.
Gerald Sheetz, who was ill.
Miss Frances Eno, was
introduced as girl of the
month by Mrs. Barry Et-
sell, chairman of the per-
sonal development commit-
tee. Mrs. Robert Eno was
also a guest of the club.
Schlosser, bridge champion Chars Hershey, pres
Dr. David E. Schlosser
of 304 E. Main St., Mount
Joy, Pa., won the 140-play-
er Individual Play champ-
ionship at the American
Lontract Bridge League Re-
gional Tournament being
held at Bermuda’s South-
ampton Princess Hotel. Dr.
Schlosser scored an amaz-
ing 164 points, 21 more
then his nearest rival, in a
tournament in which more
than 1,000 players are com-
peting. Competing against
Dr. Schlosser were such top
stars as Julius Rosenblum,
president of the World Brid-
ge Federation; Edgar Kap-
lan, bridge columnist; and
members of the world
champion Italian Blue Team,
Benito Garozzo and Giorgio
Belladonna.
The Bermuda tournament
ends February 9th.

originated from a ship leav-
ing the old world and sailing
to America in the seven-
teenth century. Mrs. Cox
prepared her historical sum-
mary in connection with the
coming Bicentennial obser-
vance.

The finance co-chairman,
Mrs. William Barto, announ-
ced that the ‘Night of
Music,” a project of the
club, will be held Satur-
day, March 1, at Donegal
High School. Another pro-
ject, a Hobby Show, with
profits to be shared with
project “DIG”, will be held
May 24. Mrs. Donald Dren-
ner and Miss Anna Mae Eby
are co-chairmen of the bene-
fit.
Spring District meeting
for Business and Profession-
al Womans Clubs will be
held in Pittsburgh June 13
to 15.
