Dear Editor:
Most of the time I enjoy
your paper, but every once
in awhile it gets me down.
For example, reading
Adam and Eve gets me down.
All those men and women
so beautifully happy with
each other - forever.
Sometimes 1 just don’t
believe your Adam and Eve
columns. I say to myself:
no man and woman can get
along that well.
If I don’t believe Adam
and Eve columns | feel
pretty good.
But then I get a nagging
doubt: maybe the columns
are true. Maybe some hus-
bands and wives really are
that happy. When I believe
Adam and Eve columns I
feel terrible.
You’d feel terrible too -
if you had been married
twice, and failed both times.
When I read Adam and Eve
and believe what I read I
always ask myself: what is
wrong with you, John E.
Rivermoore? If all these
other people have such hap-
py marriages, why didn’t
you? Is everything your
ex-wives said about you,
true?. . .And I get to feeling
awful.

Well, Adam and Eve may
be true, but even if it is,
there are a lot of married
men and women who aren’t
Adams and Eves.
For example, a female
friend of mine told me last
week she is leaving her hus
band after five years of
marriage and two children.
because she found a per
fumed love letter to him
which he apparently had hid
under the carpet. She never
would have found the letter
if the edge of the rug hadn’t
been turned up a little, and
she tripped over it. She
nearly broke her neck, she
said, and then she saw this
letter lying there.
It was full of “darlings”
and “sweeties” and compli
ments on what a great lover
he was. My friend said that
lately at home her husband
had been about as loving as
Adolph Hitler.
What really burned up
my friend was that the little
doll who was writing him
this letter told him also
what a great poet he was.
somebody like Milton or
Shakespeare. Asan example

doll quoted this line in her

bosom swelled in the moon-
light!”
It was that line of roman-
tic physiology that had
made my friend decide to
leave her husband - because
he had sent her a poem
with that very same line
before they had been mar-
ried. At that time, when
my friend had first read the
line and had, of course,
taken it as a reference to her
own beautiful body, she had
been deeply moved by a
pleasing emotion. But, now,
reading it referring to his
girl friend’s body, she was
deeply moved by an un-
pleasant emotion.
I’m not sure whether she
is leaving her husband be-
cause of jealousy, or because
of a loss of respect for his
literary abilities.

Riverview Elementary School
All parents want their
children to succeed in
school. Parents can prepare
their children for success in
reading and related language
activities before they enter
school. The Donegal School
District is sponsoring a two
session workshop for par-
ents of children ages 4 - 6.
The first session will be held
in the Seiler Elementary
School on January 21 at
7:30 p.m. in the all pur-
pose room. Session two will
be held in the Riverview
building on January 28 at
7:30 p.m. in the large group
instruction room. Refresh-
ments will be served at both
Tuesday night sessions.
Miss Jean boll, reading
expert from the Lancaster
Lebanon Intermediate Unit
13, will be presenting par-
ents with suggestions for
readiness activities to do at
home. Materials will be

provided so that some acti-
vities can be constructed at
the Workshop and taken
home. Both mothers and
fathers are invited.
Please call the Seiler build-
ing (653-5117) on January
17th or 20th if you plan to
attend. If for any reason
you do not call the school
first, please come anyway.

Maytown has a mysterious
benefactor. She woke up
in the morning after last
week’s snow storm to find
that some unknown person
had shoveled her walks AND
built her a snowman outside
her kitchen window.

Junior play
Feb. 20,21
“Time Out for Ginger,” 3
three-act comedy, will be
presented by the Junior
Class of Donegal High
School on Friday and Sat-
urday, February 20 and 21,
at eight o’clock in the high
school auditorium.
Karen Thompson will play
the title role. Her father,
the male lead, will be por-
trayed by David Presto.
Other cast members are
as follows: Jean Bixler, Sue
Bender, Sue Williams, Tam-
my Newcomer, Ted Hershey,
Steven Zerphey, James Byrd
and Jeffrey Boulton.
Anita Tignanelli has been
chosen as student director,
and Vickie Lilly will be
stage manager. Miss Cath-
arine Zeller, English teach-
er, is the faculty director.
