Just initiated this year, the course offers intensive individualized instruction in the latest technical office skills. CIVIC was planned and designed by Mrs. Naomi Houseal, head of the busi- ness department, and by Donald W. Drenner, princi- pal at Donegal. Their plan for the program was sub- mitted last spring to the federal government, which granted $52,000 to put CIVIC into operation. Desks, chairs, electrical wiring, and supplies for the CIVIC lab were paid for locally. The program is being con- ducted by Mrs. Houseal and Mr. Charles Portser of the business department. machines at D.H.S. Mrs. Houseal and Mr. Portser are now making plans for hooking up the mag typewriter to a time- sharing computer. This hook-up will, in effect, en- able the computer to “talk” in type to the students. Stan Frey at keypunch Thirty selected students are learning how to operate such sophisticated machines as the A.B. Dick Offset Dup licator, the Ricoh Master Maker (which makes plates for the duplicator), key: punch and verifier (for pun- ching cards), sorter (for classifying cards), copiers, fluid duplicators, mag card console, mag card type- writer (which automatically types letters from pre-typed mag cards), IBM Selectric typewriters, printing calcu- lators, and adding machines. Instruction is being given Donegal has one of the most sophisticated installa- tions in the state.
