MARIANNE GINGRICH
Funeral services for Mrs.
Marianne Walther Gingrich,
43, who died Thursday, Nov.
21, were held last weekend at
the convenience of the
family and burial was made
in the Mount Joy cemetery.
Mrs. Gingrich, wife of Jay
Nissley Gingrich, died at
3:45 a.m. at the General
hospital, where she was
admitted two days earlier
following a fall at her home,
“The Springs’’, south of the
borough on Longenecker
Road.
Investigation following the
death indicated that Mrs.
Gingrich made her way back
into the home and to a second
floor bedroom, from where
she telephoned a neighbor,
who summoned the am-
bulance.
A graduate of Sullins
Junior College, Bristol, Va.,
and Pennsylvania State
university, Mrs. Gingrich
was a member of Society of
Colonial Clergy . and
Daughters of American
Colonists.
She was a direct
descendant of Jacob Landis,
whose grandson settled
Landis Valley.
She was a member of First
Presbyterian
Lancaster.
Born in Lancaster County,
she was the daughter of Mrs.
Esther Rohrer Walther.
Spring Meadows Farms,
Columbia R2, and the late
Stuart B. Walther.
Besides her mother and
husband, she is survived by
two sons, J. Nissley
Gingrich, Jr., and Jeffrey
Nissley Gingrich, both at
home; a sister, Mrs. Doris
W. Herr, Columbia R2, and a
half-brother, Dr. Stephen E.
Dunlap, Lancaster.

Friday afternoon, Nov. 22,
from the Mount Joy Church
of God and burial was made
in the Mount Joy cemetery.
Death came Monday af-
ternoon, Nov. 18, at General
hospital following -an illness
of several weeks. Services
were in charge of the Heilig
funeral home.
He was the husband of
Marguerite Shickley Dock.
Before his retirement in
1972, Dock had been em-
ployed by the Lancaster
Railway Express since 1958,
when the Express office
closed in Mount Joy.
He had been the station
agent in Mount Joy for the
Pennsylvania Railroad and
Railway Express for 21
years. He was affiliated with
the former American
Express Co. from 1928 to
1937 when it became the
Railway Express.
Dock was a member of
Mount Joy Church of God, an
honerary member of
Friendship Fire Co. 1, and
charter member of Florin
Fire Co. He also belonged to
the Brotherhood of Railway.
Airline and Steamship
Clerks, AFL-CIO.
He was a volunteer driver
for the Mount Joy Fire Co.
ambulance for 22 years.
Dock was a past president
of Mount Joy Chamber of
Commerce and a member of
Mount Joy Leisure Club and
Mount Joy Area Historical
Society. He was a former
member of Mount Joy
Rotary Club.
Born in Columbia, he was

Besides his widow, at
home, he is survived by a
son, Samuel J. Dock Jr.,
New Milford, and four
grandchildren.
LIZZIE E. KENDIG
Mrs. Lizzie E. Kendig, 79,
of Maytown, died unex-
pectedly Monday afternoon,
Nov. 18, at St. Joseph
Hospital.
Born in Maytown, she was
the wife of Reuben S. Kendig
and the daughter of the late
John K. and Nannie Lizzie
Engle Miller. She was
retired from Wyeth
Laboratories, Marietta,
after 41 years as supervisor
of the kitchen staff.
She was a member of the
Maytown Church of God, the
Excelsior Bible Class and
the Maytown Golden Age
Club.
Surviving in addition to
her husband are the
following children: J.
Maurice Kendig,
Elizabethtown; Erma, wife
of John F. McCall, Lititz;
Edythe, wife of J. Richard
Heisey, Elizabethtown;
Reuben W. Kendig, Orange,
Texas; Mary, wife of
Edward C. Frey, Cohocton,
N.Y.; eight grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Annie, wife of
Samuel Deppeller,
Maytown.
Services were held Friday,
Nov. 15, from the Miller
funeral home, Bainbridge,
and burial was made in
Geyer’s church cemetery.
EUGENE R. LEBER
Eugene R. Leber, 64, of 930
Church St., died Tuesday,
Nov. 19, at his home after an
illness of eight years. He was
the husband of Esther Zink
Leber.
He had been employed in
the produce department of
the Food Fair Store at the
Lancaster Shopping Center
before his retirement eight
years ago.
A veteran of World War II,
he served in the 124th anti-
aircraft gun battalion,
medical detachment of the
U.S. Army and saw service
in Tunisia, Naples-Foggia,
Rome-Arno, Southern
France, Rhineland, and
Central Europe.
He was a member of W.S.
Ebersole Post 185, American
Legion,” Mount Joy Sport-
smen’s Association and
Florin Fire Company.
He had been a resident of
the Mount Joy area for the
past 22 years.
Born in Conoy Township he
was a son of the late Richard
and Minnie Charleston
Leber.
In addition to his widow, he
is survived by two sons,
Barry, at home, and Glenn,
Manheim R3,; a daughter,
Gale, wife of Joseph Smith
Sr., Mount Joy, and four
grandsons.
He also is survived by four
brothers and four sisters,
Edwin, Middletown;
and Charles, both of
Elizabethtown; Leon,
Alvada, Colo.; Elva, wife of
Sherman Brenner, Bain-
bridge RD; Mrs. Ruth Hilt,
Mrs. Barbara Myers, and

Kathryn, wife of David
Shumaker, all of
Elizabethtown.
Services were held from
the Heilig funeral home
Saturday afternoon, Nov. 23,
and burial was made in
Good’s cemetery, West
Hempfield township.
PETER KRAYBILL
STRICKLER
Peter Kraybill Strickler,
85, of Audubon Villa, South
Broad Street, Lititz, died
there Wednesday morning,
Nov. 20, after a lengthy
illness.
He was the husband of
Bertha Wertz Strickler and a
former resident of Rapho
Township and Mount Joy.
He was a tobacco buyer
and foreman for ‘Mumma
Tobacco Co., Landisville,
and Lancaster Leaf Tobacco
Co., Mount Joy. He also was
a horse fancier and trainer.
He was a veteran of World
War I and served in France
with Co. H, 11th Division,
U.S. Army, with the rank of
sergeant. He received the
Purple Heart.
Strickler was a member of
St. Mark’s United Methodist
Church, Mount Joy, and a
charter member and past
commander of W.S. Eber-
sole Post 185, American
Legion.
Born in Rapho Township,
he was a son of the late
William H. and Mary
Kraybill Strickler.
Surviving in addition to his
widow are a daughter,
Margaret S., wife of Wilbur
C. Hiestand, Salunga; two
grandchildren; three great-
grandsons, and five sisters,
Mrs. Fannie Myers, Mrs.
Laura Witmer, and Nora,
wife of Charles M. Eby, all of
Mount Joy; Mrs. Mary
Barto, Salunga, and Elva,
wife of Robert L. Stevenson,
Wynnewood.
Services were held from
the Heilig funeral home
Saturday morning, Nov. 23,
and burial was made in the
Mount Joy cemetery.
TO HOLD BAKE SALE
The Mount Joy Leisure
Club will hold a bake sale
Saturday, Dec. 7, beginning
at 10 a.m. in the Mount Joy
Fire Hall. Baked goods of
various kinds will be for sale.
Members of the Leisure Club
are asked to take their
contributions of baked goods
to the fire hall. Pies, cakes,
