What local people need to do is drive around, making sure they see ALL of Maytown, the mushrooming Rivermoor Village and other expanding neighborhoods. Add to that the very real possibility that at least two more developments may be coming before a new zoning ordinance can be enacted. ene of wf 2} To understand the situation, one needs to hear residents of the area identify themselves in public meeting and express themselves. ee These people love the open spaces, the peaceful rural atmosphere, the green areas, ele. ete. At public meetings at which the subject is discussed — and there have been many — the people we feel sorry for the most are these newcomers to the area who stand up and opt for the status quo of East Donegal township. re pe They are — many of them — people who sought out the environment which they wanted for themselve and for their children and they are willing to speak out to help save the open spaces. immer lp. fpr fe It is tragic, then when someone asks them, "How long have you lived here?’ seme fe. They are by no means the ‘‘Arkies and the Oakies’’ of depression days. In the summertime, they are whole families of parents and children, cruising here and there with the motivation of ‘‘seeing the country.” They form a small segment. But there are many others. We have seen hundreds of gray-haired couples, riding in nice cars, pulling handsome trailers. We feel sure many of these are ‘‘perennial wanderers’. Some of them have sold their homes and ‘live’ year around in their travel trailers. ‘‘South with the sun, north with the summer” is their motto. They are somewhat ‘‘on the go” all the time. Also in great numbers are very young adults traveling in makeshift outfits, sometimes even on motorcycles, with tents strapped on behind. In the state parks we have seen them. Several couples gregariously traveling (and camping) together. So it is — the young, the old, and the in-between have all cut home ties, either temporarily or permanently, and are on the highways.
