A graduate of Mount Joy Mount Joy Bulletin - Page 7 high school, class of 1950, he had retired after serving with the U.S. Air Force. In high school, friends recall, Boyd took an active part in athletics, first as a manager and later scored the winning goal and the winning run for the 1949 championship soccer team and the 1950 championship baseball team.
