    ‘Night Of Music’ Program Set
For Saturday Night At D.H.S.
The program for a “Night
of Music’, to be presented
Saturday, March 9, by the
Mount Joy Business and
Professional Women’s club,
has been completed and will
include a wide variety of
entertainment.
A benefit performance, the
evening’s music will begin at
8 p.m. in the high school
auditorium.
The Donegal high school
stage band will open the
program with a half hour
concert.
Masters of ceremonies will
be Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Hollinger.
The program will include:

Grover Gounker To Speak
To Chamber Of Commerce
ROVER C. GOUKER JR.
Members of the Mount Joy
Chamber of Commerce and
their guests will hear Grover
C. Gouker Jr., former vice-
president of the United
States Jaycees, Monday
night, March 11.
The occasion will be the
annual meeting and banquet
of the Chamber of Com-
merce, to be held at
Hostetters, beginning at 6:30
p.m.
Gouker, who often has
been referred to as the
“William Jennings Bryan”
of the Jaycees, is a Dale
Carnegie Institute instructor
and Lancaster Area
manager.
A nationally-known
speaker, he has averaged 200
addresses per year since
1957.
Grade School Basketball
Program Gets Under Way
Because of the delay in the
laying of a new cork floor in
the W.I. Beahm junior high
school gymnasium, opening
of the Mount Joy Grade
School Basketball Program,
too, has been delayed.
Fifty-five boys, however,
have signed up for the play
and six weeks have been
given to practice and fun-
damentals.
Saturday, March 2, the
first two games were played,
the boys splitting up into six
teams. The season will
continue with each team
meeting each of the other
five two times.

Friendship Fire Co. Auxiliary
Holds February Meeting
The monthly meeting of
the Ladies Auxiliary of
Friendship Fire Co. No. 1,
was held Thursday evening,
February 21.
The Auxiliary will be
holding another donut sale
on Saturday, March 16. Sales
will be by order only, but no
orders will be delivered. All
orders must be picked up at
the fire hall before 5 p.m. To
place your order, contact
any Auxiliary member, or
call Mrs. Carrie Smith, 653-
5435 or Mrs. Edith Etsell,
653-5682. All orders must be
in no later than Wednesday,
March 13.
The Auxiliary will be
selling handbags as a fund-
raising project. There are
several styles available,
with a variety of colors
available in each style.
A ‘silent auction” was
held after the meeting, as
well as a treat for the out-
going officers. Amanda
Darrenkamp was the
‘‘Birthday girl-of-the
month”. Chris Snyder won
the kitty.
A welcome is extended to
all Auxiliary members, and
any other interested women,
to attend the monthly
meetings held in the fire hall
at 7:30 p.m. on the third
Thursday of each month.
The Auxiliary needs more
active members, and would
welcome any new people
interested in helping support
the fire company.
Donegal Bandsmen
In District Meet
At Manheim Central
The Southern District High
School Band Festival was
held on February 14 through
16, at Manheim Central High
School. Host of this festival
was L.E. Hains from the
Pennsylvania Music
Educators Association, with
the guest conductor, Colonel
Arnald D. Gabriel.
The following students
from Donegal high school
made chairs at the festival:
Gloria Longenecker, first
chair on flute;
Lolly Baker, first chair on
baritone sax;
Keith Smith, fourth chair
on bass clarinet;
Ken McCoy third chair on
tenor sax.
All students were
auditioned and placed in a
seating arrangement by the
directors.
