They flew from Philadelphia on Tuesday, January 8, to San Juan, Puerto Rico where they stayed at the Helio Isle Hotel in a room with an ‘ocean view. Much of their stay was spent relaxing and enjoying the pool and ocean. They toured Old San Juan, played tennis and did some shopping. During relaxing moments around the pool they met such celebrities as singer Clint Holmes, the comedy team Allen & Rossi, George Kirby and Jackie Mason. They also enjoyed watching them perform nightly at their hotel. A special treat for the couple was delicious fresh pineapple served to them each morning of their stay. They enjoyed dancing and were taught a fast native Spanish dance call the “meringue’’. R GALLON ETURNABLE PLASTIC Craig Lehman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Lehman, New Haven Street, celebrated his 11th birthday on Friday, January 25. Four classmates enjoyed a birthday supper and were taken to see the movie, ‘‘That Darn Cat’. Those invited were: Phillip Landis, Jimmy McNiff, Jeff Duke and Brian Newcomer. Also attending the supper and movie was Craig's brother. Craig is a 5th grade student at Seiler Elemen- tary. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Zerphey and family Steve, Sherri, Laurie and Mark have as their house guest again this year, Jorge Cohn, an exchange student from Osorno, Chile, South America. Jorge was spon- sored through the Open Door Student Exchange Program last year. He enjoyed his stay enough to want a return visit. He is now on his summer vacation and plans YES! WE HAVE MILK IN to stay with the Zerpheys until the end of March. He is 15 years old and is attending Donegal High School with Steve. : Mr. and Mrs. James McNiff and sons Jim and Tom returned Saturday, January 19, from a one-week winter vacation in the Killington ski area near Rutland, Vermont. They experienced excellent skiing conditions with two days of actual snow fall and one morning the temperature dipped to -17 degrees. They stayed at the Red Robin Inn Ski Lodge and enjoyed full days of skiing, which in- cluded lessons in the mor- ning with free and practice skiing in the afternoon. In the later part of the week a ski school slalom race was held for all in- terested participants in the school. Mr. McNiff, Jim and Tom competed, finishing among the winners. Mr. McNiff came in the third, in the adult division, Jim in his age and ability division, a first, and 6 year old Tom, 2nd, in his division. We even saw our first Kite, sailing high in the sky! While it might have been “the first spring day,’”’ we're afraid Sunday lacked about two months of being ‘the first day of spring.” (March 21). But it did give us a hint of how nice it’s going to be when it arrives! At this time of year, when the world seems rather drab with gray streets, brown lawns, and gray skies, do you long for the flowers of spring and the green grass and green leaves? If so, watchthe sunsetand | the sunrise! Often in the very late af- ternoon, the sky will be aflame with those very colors for which you long! Or the eastern sky will | surprise you with a ‘“‘show” of red, orange, lavendar and blue! Monday morning was just such a time. As we came to the office about 8:15, there was a spectacular sunrise. Red was the predominant color, with big splotches of it painting the eastern horizon. But there was gold, white, pink and blue for contrast. It was a lovely sight! Not that he’s the last word on where and how to conserve energy, but, at least he has a better chance than I to know whether or not it is necessary to turn off a flood light that illuminates Old Glory. While watching the UCLA - Notre Dame basketball game last weekend, it came to us that Mount Joy and the local high school have not had a really outstanding basketball player in nearly 20 years.
