Donegal Seeks To Discourage
Use Of Private Cars By Pupils
Donegal high school is seeking
to curtail use of private
automobiles for transporting
pupils to and from school.
The move, taken as a measure
of cooperation in the con-
servation of gasoline to help meet
the national crisis, is not a
mandatory one but a notice
circulated to student drivers is
asking a self-disciplined
- cooperation, for the time being.
Boys and girls are asked to ride
the school buses, unless there are
important extenuating cir-
cumstances.
The text of the message is as
follows:
This message pertains to the
energy crisis and the request of
the President in conserving
gasoline.
In view of the presidental
request, Donegal High School is
asking that unnecessary student
driving to school be eliminated.
Students are encouraged to use
transportation. Driving
automobiles to school for per-
sonal satisfaction is not in
Community
Christmas Carol
Mount Joy's
Community Chorus will
hold its annual
Christmas Carol in
Memorial Park on
Saturday night, Dee. 22,

keeping with this request.
Student driving to school will
be sanctioned, if a real need
exists. Valid needs at this point
would include medical, dental or
other appointments of this
nature. At this time, it is not the
intent of the administration or
faculty to investigate every
reason for a student driving to
school. Your President has made
an appeal for each citizen to do
his part in conserving gasoline. It
is our duty as school people and
good citizens to help give
direction to this end. As your
principal, I would hope that you
would show your concern by
displaying your willingness to
cooperate. Please do cooperate
so that supervised restrictions do
not become a necessity.
Thank you,
Donald W. Drenner
Principal

a nationally circulated publication of the
National Association of Mutual Agents.
Entitled “Confidence Game,” the story, done
by a “Mutual Review” staff writer, emphasis the
element of confidence which is needed between
insurance agencies and their customers.

Borough Authority Buys Lot
For Water Well Number One
Purchase of the land upon
which the Mount Joy Borough
Authority’s new water well is
located, west of town, was
completed last week.
The transaction was made in
the office of a Lancaster at-
torney. The Authority paid $4,500.
The Authority several weeks
ago had entered into an
agreement to buy.
Also, a long-term option has
been taken on an adjoining lot,
which the Authority at this time
is not certain whether or not it
will need.
The lot, approximately 90 x 175
feet, is located in Block G of the
Abner Wolgemuth development
along Donegal Spring Road.
The authority has designated
the well as “Well No. 1’ in the
area because a second is being
drilled at a location several
hundred feet northeast, also on
the Wolgemuth property.
of the Lancaster - Lebanon
League competition.
The Tribe will be at home
against Norlebco.
Although the league is set to go,
there is one shadow hanging over
the gymnasiums of all high
schools. And, that is the spector
of gasoline shortages.
Although there is no present
plan for changing the season’s
schedule, sports have been
mentioned among the activities
which may possibly be curtailed.
In the meantime, the Indians
opened the warm-up games
strong, offering hopes of an ex-
citing season.
In the season's opener, at home
against Octorara, the Indians
held a nice, 30-20, lead at halftime
‘but the intermission time was a
turning point.
The visitors came back and
outscored Donegal, 18-15, in the
third period and 22-15 in the
fourth for a 60-57 final victory.
Dettinger led the Indians with
22 points, Bridgette followed with
15 and Schlosser had nine.
Three days later, the Tribe met
Dallastown, but again were
forced to a three-point defeat.
The first, third and fourth
quarters went to Donegal, but a
big 22-point Dallastown second
frame was good for a 77-74 final
score.
Dettinger again was leading
scorer, hitting for 16. Schlosser
had 14 and Waters 14.
Tuesday night of this week the
Indians were scheduled to play at
Red Lion.
