Page 2 - Mount Joy Bulletin November 21, 1973 Start International Mail For Christmas Delivery It is time for international Christmas mail to be on its way, Postmaster Gerald Hostetter said this week. Mail for Africa, the Near East and Far East should be posted by Nov. 29. (Parcels by Nov. 24). Parcels for Europe, Central America and South America should be on their way by Nov. 27 and even air mail by Dec. 2. Packages addressed to Canada and Mexico need to be started on their way by Nov. 29 and airmail by Dec. 4. Deadline for Christmas cards traveling by surface mail is Nov. 23. The post office has advanced mailing deadlines because of the energy shortage, giving more opportunity to handle and deliver under what may be serious handicaps. Even domestic mail must be started earlier than usual, the post office advises. Surface mail to Alaska and Hawaii should be started by Nov. 23, followed by surface letters and cards on Dec. 8. The postal service recom- mends that surface. mail to distant states be started early in December. Parcels should be mailed by Dec. 3 and letters by Dec. 8. Seiler School And Home Association To Host School Board And Officials The Seiler School & Home association will sponsor a special program for its annual November meeting on Tuesday, evening, Nov. 27. The Donegal School Board Members will be present for an informal question, answer and discussion program. Also at- tending will be the superin- tendent of Donegal School District, Ragner Hallgren, and Seiler building principal, Woodrow Sites. The evening is planned to be an informative and educational meeting of interest to all parents and students in this school district. The program will be held in the Seiler all-purpose room, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend. Refreshements will be served by members of the Seiler School & Home association. Officers in charge of arrangements are: president, Mrs. Phyllis Landis, vice- president, Mrs. Evelyn Duke; secretary, Mrs. Nancy Newcomer; treasurer, Mrs. Carol Lehman. Cub Pack No. 136 Committee Meets Cub Scout Pack 136 held a committee meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the home of John Shireman. Those attending were: Robert W. Mark, Jay Heller, David Raudabaugh, Mrs. Pat Brian, Mrs. Madalyn Raudabaugh, Mrs. Victoria Schoenberger, Mrs. Evelyn Duke, Mrs. Caeolyn Waltz, Mrs. Edna Wolfe and Mrs. Sara Denny. The next committee meeting will be held January 8 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Raudabaugh. Den 1 toured the Susquehanna Glass Factory at Columbia with leaders Mrs. Helen Keller and Mrs. Raudabaugh, on Nov. 6. Mrs. Ann Mark attended the Pow Wow at Hempfield High School in Landisville. Pleasant On Sunday night, Nov. 25, at 7:30 o'clock a team from Teen Challenge Training Center at Rehrersburg will be present at the Mt. Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church to show the film, “The Rapture.” The public is cordially invited. Mount Joy Talent In Fulton Shows A twin bill, “Help, Help, the Gobolinks’’ and ‘‘Cavalleria Rusticana” will be presented by the Lancaster Opera Workshop on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 1, at the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster. There also will be a matinee on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. Several Mount Joy People will be appearing in the presentation, including Mrs. Romayne Bridgett, Mrs. Joan Betty, Kim Lauver and Ramona Bridgett. Welcome Wagon Club Board Meets the Mount Joy Welcome Wagon held its monthly Board Meeting Nov. 7th at the home of Lena Parker. Cheri Dillow reported that 13 new members joined the club this month. The Board decided to change its monthly dinner meeting to Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mount Joy Legion. The program will be a film presen- tation by Judith Nonnenmocher from the American Red Cross. The club’s Christmas Dinner- Dance will be on Saturday, Dec. 8th at 7 p.m. at the Host Corral. Reservations and full payment must be made by Nov. 28th. All members and their friends are invited. The Children’s Christmas Party will be on Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Mark’s Fellowship Hall from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Anyone who recently has moved to the area and is in- terested in receiving a Welcome Wagon call from a hostess, may contact Shirley Brown, 653-2218. Inter-Church Council Names Charles Heaps Charles R. Heaps, 351 South Delta street, has been elected president of the Mount Joy Inter- Church Council. He was named Monday night, Nov. 5, at the fall meeting of the organization, held at the Mount Joy Mennonite church. Heaps is a representative of the Chiques United Methodist church. Other officers elected include: Rev. Jacob Replogle, pastor of the Florin Church of the Brethren, vice-president; Charles Hershey from the Mount Joy Church of God, treasurer, and Mrs. Alice Keller of the Florin Church of the Brethren, secretary. Coach Gives Resignation Charles H. Portser, Donegal high school teacher of business subjects, resigned Thursday night, Nov. 15, as head coach of the D.H.S. track team. His letter of resignation which mentioned family obligations and the tragedy within the area of track last spring, was read by Dr. Harold Fellenbaum to the Board of Education. No replacement was named. All coaching positions of the school’s fall sports (football, soccer and field hockey) will be the subject of a routine athletic debriefing conference, to be held Friday, Nov. 29. Sandra Heisey and Gerald Miller To Give Joint Sacred Concert An outstanding musical event for the Mount Joy area will take place on Sunday afternoon Nov. 25, in the sanctuary of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, beginning at 4 p.m. Gerald Miller, organist of St. Mark’s, and Miss Sandra Heisey, soprano soloist of Glossbrenner United Methodist Church, are teaming up to present a joint recital of sacred music. The recital will have five parts. Miller will first play Marcello’s setting of Psalm 18, ‘‘Elevazione’’ by Zipoli, two Hymn Preludes: ‘Praise to the Lord” by Walther and ‘‘Jesus, Priceless Treasure’ by Bach, and ‘Prelude and Fugue in E Minor’’ by Bach. This is all early 18th Century music. Miss Heisey, in program segments two and four, will sing “A Song Cycle in the life of Christ.” Selection will include _ “Winds through the Olive Trees,” *O Holy Night,” “A Legend,” IN DIESEL SCHOOL James B. Weaver of Mount Joy, has begun training at Nash- ville Auto Diesel College in Nash- ville, Tennessee, having in mind -to become an auto or diesel technician. He is a graduate of Donegal high school. “He Shall Feed His Flock,” “Jesu, Word of God Incarnate,” “Dawn in the Garden,” ‘“‘Lord, Search My Heart,” and ‘The Lord’s Prayer.” In segments three and five Miller will play two other Hymn Preludes: ‘“‘Fairest Lord Jesus” by Peeters and ‘‘O Morning Star, How Fair and Bright” by Gade, “Carillion” by Sowerby, and “Sonata No. 2 in C Minor” by Mendelssohn.
