FIRST MAJOR OPENING
MOUNT JOY, PENNA.
OCTOBER 24, 1973
TEN CENTS
Phone Cables Go Under Street
First major breaking open of
Mount Joy's reconstructed Main
street is under way!
Last week workmen in charge
of a project for the United
Telephone company opened a
ditch across Main street at
Comfort alley.
Not since the street was
completely built in 1966 had there
been such extensive breaking
open of the pavement for utilities
-- avater, sewer, gas of others.
There have been minor cuts, but
never before a complete
crossing.
Last week - involving parts of
three days - the crossing was
completed and the surface
replaced.
Actually, there are two phases
of the construction work, both of
which are connected with placing
vital telephone cables un-
derground.
The Main street crossing in-
volves the laying of eight plastic
pipes in which the telephone
cables will be installed. This first
phase involves about a two-block
stretch south from the telephone
company’s property at Comfort
and Apple alleys to Comfort and
Henry street.
The second phase will include
taking lines under ground from
the same beginning point, west
along Apple Alley to Fairview.
There the lines will divide with
one cable going north under the
railroad to a nearby pole. The
other branch will turn to Main,
then west along Main and finally
terminate on Springville road.
Construction and permit fees to
the Borough of Mount Joy for the
construction will amount. to
something slightly above $2,500.

Tribe Clipped In
Final Frame,
20-14, As Garden Spot Rallies
Donegal had it won until the
final minutes of the game!
But, Garden Spot Saturday
afternoon, Oct. 20, rallied sharply
and took a 20-14 win to break out
of the Lancaster - Lebanon
League celler, leaving the
Indians as the only loop team in
Section II without a victory this
season. .
Visiting Spartans scored early
with a touchdown and a one-point
conversion. The Tribe squared
the score after the half-time
break when a GS fumble was
recovered in the end zone by
Keith Dishart and Jeff Sheetz
kicked.
The Indian rally continued in
the fourth when Randy Richards
broke over from the one and
Sheetz kicked to give Donegal a
14-7 lead. But, Garden Spot then
went to work and moved 62 yards
for a TD but the conversion
failed. The Spartans followed
with another goal crossing in the
final minutes and a one-point
PAT.
Saturday, Donegal hosts
Solanco, whose Golden Mules
