NABI Holy Week Services At St. Luke's Church The solemn services of Palm Sunday and Holy Week will begin in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, with a service of the Blessing of the Palm branches and Holy Communion at 8:30 a.m. on Palm Sunday. The second service of Palm Sunday will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be a Family Choral Eucharist and sermon. The congregation will participate in the reading of the Passion Gospel. ‘Palm branches will be distributed at both services on that day. The Senior Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Kenneth Warren, will lead in the musical portions of the service. Dr. David E. Schlosser, the parish organist, will provide special music for the service. The Rector, the Rev. Donald M. Whitesel, will be the celebrant at both services and preach the sermon at the second service. On Tuesday in Holy Week there will be a celebration of the Holy Communion at 7:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday, the day on which the Holy Communion was instituted, there will be a celebration of the Communion at 7 a.m. The second service will be a Choral Eucharist and the Ceremonial Stripping of the Altar in preparation for Good Friday at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. On Good Friday there will be a brief service of prayers and meditation at noon in St. Luke’s Church. The public is invited to attend all of the services. The Community Good Friday service will be held at the Glossbrenner United Methodist Church on April 20, from 1 until 3 p.m. Theme of the service is “The Cross in the Psalms”. Three messages will be presented by the Rev. Harry Bert, pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Brethren in Christ church and President of the Mount Joy Interchurch Council; the Rev. Richard Kohler, pastor of St. Mark’s United Methodist church, and the Rev. W. Lester Koder, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church. Everyone is invited to attend and should feel free to come and leave as his schedule permits. There will be special music and congregational participation. Beahm Junior High School on Tuesday, April 17, at 8 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The formation of a chess club for players in the Mount Joy, Manheim, Landisville, Marietta and Elizabethtown area will be discussed. Five Fire Policemen Serve At Columbia Five members of the local Fire Police organization were called to Columbia Sunday afternoon, April 8, to help with the problems connected with the spactacular grocery store blaze which did an estimated $100,000 damage. She is a senior in the college preparatory course at Donegal high school. Linda’s high school activities include: Future Teachers Association 10-11 (Historian)-12; Chrous 10-11-12; Spanish Club 11- 12 (President); Future Nurses Club 11; Junior Class Play 11; Spanish Honor Society (President); National Honor Society -12;, and Science Fair Winner 10-11-12, Counfy Honorable Mention 12. She also is a member of the 4-H Club and the Lancaster County 4- H Council. She is a member of Calvary Bible Church, where she is active in the Youth Group. Simmons is the son of Mrs. Jane E. Simmons, 235 East Market Street, Marietta. He is a senior in the college preparatory course at Donegal high school. Thirteen Attend District BPW Spring Meeting A delegation of 13 local women, representing the Mount Joy Business and Professional Women’s club, attended sessions of the annual BPW District 7 Spring Meeting, held Saturday, March 31, at York college. The show, starting at 7:30 p.m., will feature night wear, causal wear, sport and beach wear, daytime, and prom and formal wear.
