WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1972 $14,167 From Revenue Sharing to Boro “eu am Ween: Yon “Yieel mest A somewhat larger-than-ex- pected slice of the Federal Revenue Sharing pie has been received by the Mount Joy Borough. A check for $14,167 has been handed the borough as half of -its first - year $28,334.00 share of the first-year $28,334 share of the WashingtQn program to assist local governments and the taxpayers of those municipali- ties. Originally, the estimate for Mount Joy had been $24,250 as its part of the first-year di- vision of funds. Mount Joy's rate of assist- ance was $2.84 per resident of the borough (as figured by the 1970 census count.) That is the third highest borough rate in the county, New Holland received at the rate of $3.32 per person and Christiana was tops at $3.45, East Donegal Township re- ceived $7,707 as its half-year distribution at the rate of $2. 57. That was the eighth highest assistance rate. Sadsbury Twp. led all the rest at $6.33 per person. Others followed: Lea- cock, $5.70; Little Britain, $4.- 13; Earl, $4.09; Colerain, $3.- 12; Bart, $2.89; Salisbury, $2.- 66. The checks received this week are to cover a retroact- ive period of from Jan, 1, ’71 to June 30, 1971. Checks for a second half year—June 30, 1971 to Dec. 31, 1971—are expected to be distributed sometime during the month of January. The payment to the bor- oughs is figured on a three- part formula which takes into consideration not only the population but also the local governmental unit’s own tax- ing effort and the per capita income of the people within the unit as compared with others. Among the regulations im- posed on the local communi- tv by Washington is the re- quirement to make separate - accountings, to publish a de- tailed accounting, make ac- countings available to the pub- lic, use the money within a period of two years, and to spend it within a designated framework of needs, First detail work of the Work Progresses At Fire House Work is progressing on the revamping of the ground fioor social rooms of the Friendship Fire company. Doing the work themselves and using a grant from the borough for the floor work, the firemen are dividing the original room into two areas— one a lounge room and the other a television room.
