Robert R. Fortune, PP&L vice-president, indicated that earnings would have been higher except for the flood caused by tropical storm Ag- nes in June. Costs associated with flood damage reduced earnings by 10 cents a share. Fortune emphasized that adequate earnings are essen- tial to insure adequate sup- plies of power for PP&L cus- tomers in the future, “The ris- ing demands for electric ser- vice, even in spite of our growing efforts to promote energy conservation, require that we build about $1.5 bil- lion of new electric facilities in the next five years alone.
