Ulrich and Robert Kunkle will throw out first ball) This is the year the Done- gal school budget goes over $3 million! Thursday night, May 18. as the Board of Education held its May meeting in the Done- gal high school library, it ten- tatively approved a budget of just under $3% millon. Actually, the 1972-73 bud- gat is $360,576 above this vear’s figure and $608,349 above the year before. The new budget, which can not be approved officially for 30 days, is set at $3,322, - 843. However, there are no tax increases called for to cover that amount. To raise the local share of the record budget, the com- munity will be called upon for the following taxes: 1. 69 mill assessment on real estate; 2. $10 per capita tax 3. Three-quarters of a per- cent on earned wages. income, and 4. Cne perceat on real es- tate transfers. Donegal district - residents will pay $1,309,946 of the to- tal anticipated expenditures. Revenues from state sources will amount to $1,606,198 and funds from federal gov- ernment are expected to be $47 360. Balance from 1971-- "72 amounts to $357.839. The largest increase in the budget is salaries for the in- structional staff, which mov- ed from $1,637,205 to $1.- 836,737. The board will meet June 21 at 12:15 p.m. to take fin- al action to adopt the budget. —Announced that Donegal school district will close clas- ses for the year on Thursday, June 8. Elementary schools will close at 12 noon and sec- ondary schools at 12:35. There will be no food servic- es that day. Pupils may pick up report cards between 1:45 and 2:45 p.m. on June 9 or between June 12 - 15. Cards not picked up: will be mailed later in June unless they are held for school debts —Raised the price of adult admissions to athletic contests next year to $1.25. To Unveil Hershey Plaque A former Mount Joy busi- nessman- an industrialist who later reached the pinnacle of success, as measured by many different yard sticks, will be honored here Saturday after- noon, May 27. y As part of the Memorial Day celebration, a handsome bronze plaque will be erected on a building at Jacob and Donegal streets in which the famous Milton S. Hershey once operated a caramel fac- tory. The plaque is to mark the site and to insure that in the years ahead the coming gen- erations will know that Her- shey did have a business here, The erection of the marker is sponsored by the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce. President Albert Newlin is in charge of the program, which will be held immedi- ately following the big Mem orial Day parade—at about 4 p.m. The property presently is occupied by AMP, Inc., which operates a plant in its own building immediately adjac- ent.. The plaque will be placed at the northeast corner of the building facing Donegal street. Hershey bought the proper- ty late in 1891 from the Mt. Joy Woolen Mfg. company and on April 20, 1898 sold it to George Brown. Mobile Museum Coming The Pennsylvania Mobile Museum will visit Mount Joy Saturday, May 27, as part of the Memorial Day activities and will be open to the pub- lic at Main and Market Sts. between the hours of 10 a.m. tnd 6 p.m. The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the public ap- pearance of the museum The tractor-trailer museum, housing displays currently based“on the theme, “The Skills of Man,” uses a 44-foot trailer as the exhibit area. New Trees young trees have been planted this spring in Mount Joy’s Memorial Park. Both are along the east side, facing Delta street, and both replace trees planted former- ly but which were casualties. Two new, One is in memory of Lieut. Robert E. Germer and the other in memory of Charles W. Heaps by the students of Seiler school. A third memorial tree in the community has had an appropriate marker installed this spring. It is a young tree at the south end of the girls’ hockey field on the lawn of Donegal high school. It reads “The Class of 1960, Friends of Donald S.
